Hi,

I was just wondering if its normal for a one year old to still wake heaps during the night???

Maddy has 2 good hour - hour and a half day sleeps and is fairly active during the day but hasn't slept through since she was 4.5 months old.

Most nights its just once or twice and we give her a milk which she drinks by herself in the cot and she goes straight back to sleep. Lately though DH & I are getting really tired as she sometimes wakes 6 times a night.

She puts herself to sleep during the day with no milk so i don't know why she is insisting on milk after each wake up during the night. Sometimes she drinks so much milk during the night I can't give her milk during the day otherwise she'll be so fat! She has heaps of food during the day so she can't be hungry.....

Any ideas on how we can get her to sleep through?

Hi there

I don't have your problem, but putting myself in your shoes, I would stop offering the milk at night. I know that my 11mth old doesn't need to feed at night and eats and drinks plenty during the day, so I wouldn't offer more at night.

It could be that it has become a habit to wake up so much at night now, and you need to create new habits.

If she can sleep during the day without the milk, I for sure wouldn't do it at night!

If you think she is waking up because she is thirsty, I would only offer water (fat free!). You may find then after a few wake ups without milk that she may not bother waking up to only get water, IYKWIM.

Heres hoping you get a good nights sleep soon! :)

Well control crying worked for me....however if your not into that, I'm not sure?
The water idea sounds good.

yep, control crying worked for me too, its hard but so worth it in the end. ive just returned from a week at tresillian which solved all my problems. my 9 month old twins are now sleeping two day sleeps (1.5 hours each sleep) and 11 hours at night. Pre tresillian I was up every 2 hours feeding and juggling two babies who kept waking eachother up. day sleeps where always done separately.
if you need more info Im happy to help

Mummy2maddy...Mine is the same. Though he doesnt drink at night. He still wakes though up to 4+ times evey night.
At the end of the day I'm putting it down to his personality type as he's such an active and fidgety boy.
CC doesnt help....sometimes its easier to get up, put the blankets back on mine, comfort him..and he's off again.
CC-ing would have just made it worse...but you try what you need.
Good luck. If you solve the mystery..could you let me in on the formula?
Thanks and good luck,
Lx

Hi, yeh i have done controlled crying and it does work but i guess laziness on our part is why we are back here again with sleep problems and dammit, looks like we will have to do it again......

I hate it so much but it works.

Yeah it's not pleasant, cant say it's something I enjoy, but it does work!! Cj has been sleeping through from 7 or 8 months & we have always used that method!! :) Except when he's sick.... (which is very rarely)
