Just because your ds is only pooing every 2nd day does not mean your supply is low.

It is quite normal for a bf baby to go that long without a poo.Dd used to go days without one.

BF babies can poo anywhere from ten times a day, up to once every ten days!

Definitely not a reason to think your supply is low.

Do you have any other concerns which might make you think you have low supply?

I didn't breastfeed my bubs, but from talking to my mum (who breastfed 5 kids), one poo every two days is perfectly normal...she said that I only poo'd once a week when I was tiny.

As long as bub has lots of wet nappies I wouldn't be worried :)

Don't worry about poo... every bub is different! Wet nappies is more important.

Try emailing the ABA.. I got a reply within 24 hours. They are fantastic.

Ellefreya: go by the number of wet nappies, not pooey ones. My boy only had a dirty nappy once every 10 days. And he was a chubby little thing - there was never a problem with my supply.

Just what I was going to say. As long as there are plenty of wet nappies then bub is fine. My little man only poos every 5-7 days.

My advice: keep doing everything that you are doing except the poo counting.

You are doing a great job. Bubs sounds perfect

Same here. Another 8-10 day pooer LOL. And I have more milk than I can poke a stick at.
As long as he's wetting at least 6 nappies in 24hours your supply is fine.

I agree with all of the above...
try not to doubt yourself - your body is probably doing exactly what it should - providing the right quantity and quality of milk at the right time.
But if you are worried is bub putting on weight??? Does he seem satisfied after a feed??
I think alot of us b/f mums forget that above eating well and drinking plenty of fluids, we also need to rest to produce milk (well IMO anyway). So, make sure you find some time to put your feet up.

I really really hope that all these responses have made you feel more confident. As long as your baby is making lots of wet nappies and gaining some weight, all should be fine with your supply.

I agree with Ziggie, emailing the ABA is the way to go, I'm sure they'll reassure you too.

Good luck you're doing so well.

You sound like you're doing great! Well done, you must be so keen to breastfeed and that's a fantastic thing
Ariene sometimes pooped daily, sometimes once every 4-5 days (and far out, they were pretty scary!) but it's totally normal for breastfed babies to go without pooing for up to a couple of weeks! I don't know how that works .... but it happens!

Enjoy the lack of stinky nappies to deal with! :D But just you wait for what it's like when he finally does one...:devil6:

Its scary how much poo can come out of such a tiny body.. my son requires bathing as wipes alone are useless - my dh even cuts off his singlet when I'm not around to help !!

Totally agree with everyone else - it sounds like you are doing all the right things!

Breastmilk is very easily digestable and that's why fully breastfed babies don't always poo that often - after their tummies are done digesting it, there isn't much left to make waste.

Keep up doing everything that you are doing - as long as is having the 6-8 wet nappies a day and is gaining weight, then it's all good!

hes never really satisfied after a feed... other mothers i dont even know comment on how small he is for 2 months.. that gets me paranoid! My breasts always feel empty too and i hardly ever feel the let down...

What are you using as your guide for him being small? The current weight charts are not an ideal guide, my perfectly healthy little one is always in the 10th percentile but he does gain and not go backwards in weight and that is what counts, my breasts didn't feel full after about six weeks and I only rarely felt the let down after that time. After 6 weeks (ish) you supply would have settled down and you breast would be producing the "right" amount of milk(most likely).. if he is not satisfied then let him feed more, that will stimulate more milk to be produced.. my supply issues seems to be over as my little one has started feeding more cos of his teething.
Don't worry! Worrying won't help your supply but so far there is nothing you have said to make me feel that your supply is actually an issue

hey, my boobs are much smaller now too but Harper is weeing like a tap so i don't worry. i'm told the height/weight charts are based on formula bubs. my baby is on the centre line and some people say he looks big, some say he looks small.

i don't put any stock in other peoples comments, i know he would be upset if he was hungry and i wouldnt have so many nappies to wash if he wasnt wee-ing enough.

ps - i love the name Kaidayn!!

Hey Ellefreya,

Are you demand feeding or by the clock??? Maybe just offer him the breast a little more often for a while to see if he is still hungry. That way he might seem more satisfied and the extra suckling will help boost your supply.

But having said that, I agree with jessiebean - you are probably producing the right amount of milk and that is why you don't feel full anymore.

Hope it works out for you. You are doing a great job!!!

One thing I have found being first time mum is ignore most people!! You can end up in a total mess if you listen what other people say.. nearly everyone has something to say about the size of your baby and his or her sleep habits.. mostly these are things beyond our control after a certain point. Even if a CHN or Doctor says something make sure you get the full picture, my Doctor is well meaning but shocked that I don't have my periods back 7 months after Bubs has been born and is a total germphobe and doesn't want bubs to suck anything or crawl on floors!
What I a trying to say that being a mum to your baby is something that everyone (even those who aren't anyone's mum) thinks they are an expert on despite the fact that you are the only one who is!

Don't worry about people commenting on how small he is - they don't know squat.

I am still constantly getting comments about how small Ebs looks (she's a may bub too BTW) and she was HUGE when she was born (4.88kg at birth). It's more a case of people just forget that babies are small until about 6 months old.

As for the milk, I went up to a H cup when my milk came in but now 8 weeks later I am back in a F-G cup so I'm guessing that my supply has adjusted to Ebs needs. Sometimes I don't even feel the letdown when I am feeding but I monitor her swallows and she seems to be getting enough. As for the unsettled behaviour it could be that your little man is wanting to comfort suck rather than feed IYKWIM.

Hope you are feeling better about it all, you're doing great.
