DD is sick at the moment with bronchiolitis. I know she should be having regular feeds but how do you force a 7 month old to feed every couple of hours. At the moment she hasn't had a bottle since 10am this morning and flatly refuses one even though she is grumpy and obviously needs it. I have continuiously tried all afternoon and she just wont have it.
People keep telling me that she probably doesn't need it and not to worry. I have heard that plenty of babies drop bottles at 7 months old and to just feed her heaps of food instead. How can i not worry. I am worried about her dehydrating, i am worried that the next bottle she is going to guzzle and fill herself right up and then be in pain from being so full (this happens with bronchiolitis, it hurts their lungs when they fill their tummies right up), i am worried because she is sick and i am her mum, and i am worried because i just am. :(
Thanks for reading, if you got this far. Vent over.
Aww poor little baby. You have every right to be worried, I would be too. Poo poo to those people who said that!! She quite obviously needs it as all babies do at that age, but just feels too unwell to drink it. I hope she starts to feel better real soon and starts drinking again. Maybe take her to the doctors if she refuses for much longer. :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: These are for you.
:hugs: to you. My DS had bronchiolitis a month ago and it was really scary.
I hope she's feeling better really soon :)

Thanks ladies, she has only just gotten over it about 5 weeks ago to go and get it again. I hope its not going to be a recurrent thing during winter.
Next question, would you wake her to feed her (try to feed her while still asleep????). She is currently still asleep, she hasn't had a bottle since 10am so it has been nearly 11 hours?? OR, would you let her wake by herself and then feed her?
Thanks
Janet.

Hey, my DS has had it four times in four months, so i know what you are going through.
It is exhausting isn't it!!!
To be honest, I'd let her sleep. And just give her liquids when and if she'll take them.
I think the sleep is so important, because it really takes it out of the poor bubbies.
:hugs:
Oh and I meant to add, NURSE ON CALL 1300 60 60 24 are fantastic with that sort of question....i have called them numurous times during DS's bronch bouts.

i hope she feels better, i know it sounds really silly but see if she will suck on a icy pole or even take water from a teaspoon perhaps the novelty will make her take some :) Obviously her body is telling her to rest though and all you can do is keep an eye on her. Naturally if your worried go see your docs but even a tiny amount of fluid, even 20ml will be enough.
I hope she gets better soon and you feel better soon to :D
Have you tried a medicine dropper? I had to do this a couple of weeks ago when i had my 4 mth old baby in hospy! Was the only way i could get any fluid into her.
Just give little bits regularly. I had to do 6 mils every 10 mins for 24 hrs (yes it was a loooooooong nite) but it was either that or a drip.
Good luck..i hope you baby feels better soon:hugs:

I dont know if you can give babies this young hydrolite (?) icy poles or the drink from the chemist? Or paedalite (?) that you make a drink out of from powder? This would give her a bit more energy and glucose. She might now feel so sicky and flat.
I hope she feels better soon. It makes me not want to complain so much about my 6month DD wanting BF every 2.5 hrs since birth....day & night.

Thanks Roopee, i might just try this. She had a bottle last night at 12.30 and then one again at 6am this morning but nothing since. She is in bed now and flatly refuses one. Before she went to bed she had about 10 mouthfuls of water from a bottle so probably about 5-10ml but better than nothing.
I just worry because they can go downhill so fast. At the moment she isn't lethargic or droopy/floppy and she has been having wet nappies (not very wet and also very smelly because it is so concentrated, but nevertheless wet). I hope she has one soon as it has been nearly 15 hours.
I hope she gets better soon. I hate it when my babies are sick.

:hugs: I know its hard. My 6mth old has a bad case of bronchiolitis too & isnt feeding very well either. She has about 50ml every 4hrs. This morning she had 110mls so that was good but it lasted her most of the day.
:fingerscrossed: they are all better soon. Its horrible for them when they are sick, especially with something they cant do much about or give anything to help.

:hugs: I know how hard it is my DD has it right now ( second time), and have been in the hospital with it, for oxygen.
I found it realy hard cause it is highly contagious.
I let her sleep, and feed her when she needed it. it usualy gets worse on the 3rd or 4th day, and you should notice a differance within a week.
Hope she gets better soon

 everyone again. Well she still hasn't had a bottle but has had about 40ml of juice. She seems to be eating OK so we are giving her fruit gels, custards (things with lots of fluid) so we figure its better she gets it this way then none at all.
Hopefully, tomorrow she starts to feel better. I don't know how much more i can take of this. :gloomy:

Thanks ladies for all your replies.
WEEEELLLL, i took DD to the doctors today and she actually has CROUP. Stupid me didn't pick it up. She had bronchiolitis about 1 month ago and had the barking cough so this time i thought that it must be the same :banghead: I am soooo mad at myself for getting it wrong. She has been given some medicine to hopefully help her.( last time i thought she originally had croup and was told by the doc she actually had bronchiolitis so this time i assumed the same)
While i was there the doctor has picked up a heart murmur aswell. :( Hopefully it is from her being sick and will go away. I haved to get her checked again when she is well. (told the doctor she is going to have to squeeze that appointment between all the illnesses, told her it might not be for a while :D )
One good thing is this morning she had a bottle at 11 am and another one at 4pm.
Hopefully by tomorrow she will start to get better.
Janet.
