hi,

Can anyone tell me the difference between a Gynocologist and an Obsteretrican? (sp)

I have only seen my current gyno twice but am considering changing to someone else.

thanks
Liz

ps If anyone around is in the Maitland/East Maitland area please let me know if you know of any good ones. I am currently seeing Dr McGrath at east maitland.

Gyno = looks after all your womenly plumbing when not pregnant.

Obs = looks after you when your preg, delivers your baby.

Sometimes Dr are both(because the training is Gynae/Obs specialty), but some choose not to do the Obs side due to litigation or lifestyle. :)

Hi . I had my first bub at the NIB private hospital Newcastle. My Ob was Glen Lowe and his practice is in Lambton Heights. Anyway; I cant say anything bad about him. I received great care and was very happy with him. Im not sure if that is too far away for you but hope this info helps.

so if I see a gyno, when i am pregnant, they will not continue to see me? Or will they still look after me until I give birth and hand over the birth to wherever I go......

You will have to ask them, as some will not to Obstectrics only Gynaecology. While your asking them ask what thier C/S and induction rates. Some also pass on their Indemnity insurance cost to you which I don't think medicare or Health fund cover.:)

Ask yourself as well, do you really need an Ob? If you have a normal, helathy pregnancy, your local public hospital will have fabulous midwives who are more than capable of taking care of you throughout your pregnancy, during your labour and afterwards, and best of all its free;) :)
