My DD1 is almost 12 weeks old and is currently going through her growth spurt! Lately shes been getting annoyed at me trying to burp her and starts fidgeting and gets really annoyed if I keep trying, even after one burp or no burp. Does she need to be burped every time? Sometimes she falls asleep without being burped. Is this something babies grow out of?

Help can anyone relate to this? Surely someone out there knows? :)

Some people will tell you that babies don't need to be burped at all, I was told this about breastfed babies as they SHOULD be latched properly and not allowing air to be gulped... but I think it depends on the baby.

I didn't always burp Cobes, sometimes I'd put him up in a sling and jiggle for a while, other times just afew pats.. but yeah.. wasn't imperative as gas never seemed to bother him.

Hi there,

Our little girl is 12 weeks too. She is quite strong now and when I sit her on my lap to be burped, she'll push back and give me a big smile.

I haven't been burping her for almost a week now. She's fine without being burped. She always bring up a burp later when we pick her up ... or she'll let out a big big fart :D

My bubbybean did the same thing from about the same age, he is still doing now he is 7 mths old but now it is the the EXTREEME which can be trying. The difference now is that he won't continue feeding until he has burped so he must be walked around until he burps.. hen he will feed but he hates "being burped" in the traditional ways.

I had a bub who gave up the burp very quickly. I found he was better at doing it himself - the pats on the back etc didn't seem to help at all.

I found that I often tried too hard to make Ariene burp- often she just didn't need to. The paed explained this to me with Ronan- when breastfeeding, burping just isn't something that has to happen every time. Sometimes the air just slips up and is just breathed out and you never know they burped- other times a rub on the back or just sitting up for a bit longer will do the job
Hope that helps :)
