View Full Version : moving to three feeds
Has anyone moved their bub from four feeds (early morning, morning tea. afternoon tea, before bed) to three (early morning, lunch (before sleep) and before bed)? My DD is 8.5 months, eats three sizeable meals a day and sleep through. I was hoping she could then start having finger food for morning and afternoon tea?

Hi Jender - am going through a bit of a dilemma about this myself. My DD is 8 mths next week and is still feeding 5 times a day (including a dream feed). I'm in the process of working out how to wean her off the 11am feed onto baby yoghurt, as I'm back working 3 days a week and she refuses EBM in a bottle or sip cup, but while she was taking youghurt happily a couple of weeks ago, she's started throwing it up the last couple of days, so we're going to try baby custard, made with EBM for a few weeks, then try the yoghurt again.
For the record, I thought baby yoghurt would be a bridging snack until she could get thoroughly into finger food. I was giving her baby Yoplait (only one with no added sugar), but then found Barambah Organic yoghurt for infants - its expensive, but she really likes it and it makes me feel better giving her something more natural.
Good luck with it -its quite frustrating!
hi,
i have always just fed my babies whenever they wanted/needed it.
when i introduced other foods i did it as an add on to breastfeeding and just gradually the solids overtook the breastfeeding until they eventually weaned off the boob.
breastfeeding for me was more than just scheduled feed times, i found it a great comforter and cuddles too, so i never really timed it or had a set routine.
it sounds like you have quite a clear weaning plan happenning and if it is working for you then
I went to see my ECHN about this today.... my DS is 7 months and on 3 meals a day plus I'm still doing 5 BF's each day. She said to cut out the mid morning feed this week and mid afternoon feed next week. She said once they are on 3 meals a day they don't need these two feeds as well. She suggested keeping them busy so they don't notice they are missing it and to also give them a snack and some water. She said yoghurt was a perfect snack. Hope it's as simple as it sounds!
Thanks all. I think I will try to move to three a day. I actually love the feeding part but she is so into her food, i think 3 a day will be enough. Like you meme, I do feed for comfort if she does wake up for some reason at night (not very often) or other odd times. Three times a day should be able to continued for quite some time yet I hope!
