Just wondering what people think of infant gaviscon

Im pretty sure EJ has reflux and sometimes cough/brings up a little milk and cries
she also arches back a lot . Last night she arched back in the car seat as i was putting on the arm straps and had her feet hard against the seat (is in reverse pos) and had her head right back and arching really badly and cause of the straps it was really hard to get her out :( today has seemed a little better but dont want that to happen again so I thought id try the infact gaviscon before i take her to a doctor.

Thanks

I would take her to the doctor before trying the infant gaviscon. I just feel when they are little it doesn't hurt to get a professional opinion first before you give them something.
We went to the dr and they say try the infant gaviscon, it did nothing, but they suggest that first as it is the most gentle treatment. We then went onto Zantac and he improved.
To be honest I don't know anyone that has had success with the Gaviscon. But you never know.
Hope your little one is better soon.:)

Have a doc appointment on thurs as hes booked out till then though they will see her sooner if she gets it bad again - so far from the episode sat she hasnt had one like that since. The lady there was trying say breastfed babies dont get reflux? Havent used the gaviscon as yet mainly cause of the back of box saying should use in babies under 1 unless medical supervision and also since she hasnt had it really since that bad time.

Hi Cathyn
Our bub has silent reflux and our paed told us to try 1ml Mylanta as required (she was 3 weeks old at the time), but not more than every 4 hours. If this helped then we would know if it was a reflux/acid issue and then we could move on to Zantac / Losec, or other options depending upon your parenting preference.
I think Gaviscon is not suitable for small babies under 6 months of age, so please check this before using it.
I know you may not want to go to the Dr for every little thing, but if your bub has reflux then it can become a big thing very quickly as their throat can get very sore very quickly.
If you would like to know more please PM me as our bub is now 15 weeks old and we are having a beautiful time, but I can still remember the hell of our early days with reflux.

Well i ended up getting into the doctors today cause she seemed in pain and was real uncomfortable when feeding even cried a little during it this afternoon - Doc couldnt find anything wrong with her and reckoned she had no pain so has come to the conclusion her bowel may be a bit irritated.. she did do a heap of gas once we got there though. Said it wasnt reflux though and her throat looked ok.

Thanks Roxy and Happy Lady for the info - I never ended up using the infant gaviscon sachets so dont know whether to return them or keep them in case i need them later though if its not that great them maybe ill return it. BTW this can be used on young babies it seems with medical supervison the instructions on back have an under 4.5kg dose.
