View Full Version : Breastfeeding through pregnancy
I'm still bf my 19 month old whilst 4months pregnant with no. 4. I've never fed this far into any of my previous pregnancies and was wondering if anyone could share their experiences of doing same. Tell me about the benefits you found and how your baby/toddler went as the belly got bigger.
Also, any encouragement or advise to tandem feed would be greatly appreciated.
I was a tandem feeder (:crying: Ozzy has only recently weaned). I loved tandem feeding and would do it again if I was to fall pg anytime soon (which I am not actually hoping for).
My favourite thing about tandem feeding was when Isla was first born and the milk came in she had such a little mouth and my boobies would get soo hard and sore she refused to attach until they were less hard. So I would attach Ozzy first and then Isla would happily feed after he had the initial milk. It was soo much easier to attach her after that.
I also loved that if my boobies were really really full I didn't need to express I would just offer the breast to one of the kids (there was always one that would take the boob).
As for when my belly got really big - Ozzy still managed to find ways to get himself comfortable. A good way for us was laying down.
The ABA bought out a booklet titled 'Breastfeeding through pregnancy and beyond' that might interest you.;)
Congrats on your pregnancy :)
I breastfed the entire time of my second pregnancy and for some reason, Summer seemed to love my milk MORE. Like OM said, she always found a way to get around the belly or we would lay down on my side and she would rub my belly while we fed, aww so cute!
As for tandem feeding, I'm doing that now and I'm finding it is easier then I thought it would be. Not having them both on at once like my avatar though, that can be difficult  But another thing OM said when your boobs are full and bubby is sleeping, you've always got your toddler around to give you some relief!!
Good luck with everything! If there's anything else you'd like to know, just PM me ;)
i breastfed for seven months of pregnancy.
my experience wasn't without difficulties , except that i am glad that despite the difficulties it was still pretty positive.
at first my dd nearly weaned, i think the milk changed taste, but being only 15mths old i really wanted to give her the option to keep going a bit longer. she did and then i found it really painful.
i limited feeds so that i wasn't resenting feeding and then we happilly fed until she turned two, at which point both she and i were happy to wean.
i think that as i got bigger i mainly just fed lying down.
i did love being able to tell the nurse helping me brestfeed my newborn that i had only had 2 months of not breastfeeding so i was fairly confident with it.
