Just wanted to know what type of cake did you have for your child's first birthday? Did you buy it or make it?
Thinking what to do for DD's birthday in November now as we have her christening and other events coming up.
Wanted to make a cake.. but still undecided.

I made Cobey's cake on the weekend - click (http://flickr.com/photos/nikki_m/815391735/) - just used homebrand butter cake mix ;)

The 'dots' are fruit loops and the ribbon is roll-up reels. Nothing special but it looked good!

i got a teletubbies tin from ebay and made a cake for dd, with ds i made a teddy bear using a tin as well LOL with dd2 i made a swimming pool, really easy just make a cake get some chocky logs to put around the sides to look like a fence and then plonk some blue jelly on top and get some cupi dolls :D

These were all done for first birthdays i was pretty proud of myself for making them

I made the good ol' Number 1 cake too :yes: Here's some photos (http://faeml.com/sarah/?p=478). I used Homebrand cake mixes too. They rock!

Being dairy farmers, I made a john deere tractor cake :D. I just hired a tin in the shape of a tractor. I think hubby was more impressed than my son :laughing:

We had a bee hive cake to go with the bumblebee theme party.

A friend of mine created this masterpiece. It was a vegan cake too - so no eggs or dairy. A woman at the party who was allergic to egg and dairy and hadn't eaten cake in years had about 3 pieces, she was beside herself with excitement!

I have to say my friend also did a full trial of this cake a week before the party too!

I made Ds1 a cookie monster cake, Ds2 will get Elmo in 2 weeks time.
