I'm new to this website and although my children are well over the age for this group I do have a couple of step-granbabies and I also work in childcare.

I would like to ask a question without causing offence to anyone but would like people to answer honestly.

A lot of children/parents I work with have very similar problems to the ones you are experiencing. I can honestly say that I was blessed with 2 children who have never given me any grief. Even at the ages of 11 & 13 I may ever once in awhile get a little attitude but very little. I have always been strict but fair with my children and set boundaries for them, and I can honestly say that I am really proud of who my children are as people. (I must also add that we very rarely smacked our children)

Anyway my question is do you find that children today rule their households? if you agree why do you think so!

My answer is that kids sometimes, but not always, rule our household. We have "kids time" and "grown up time" (eg when the news is on, or when mum & dad are working (doing housework, paying bills etc).

When it is kids time, we play games, do activities together etc. When it is grown up time the little ones do their own thing with our help/guidance if needed.
