OK after help with my custard I can make it fine now. I'm having trouble with the cooling process though - I'm finding it gets lumps in it. I don't like lumps  :barf:
How do I stop this?

Dunno about avoiding them, but a quick trip through the blender fixes them once they have formed

Ive always found that custard made with powder does that.. I don't have a fix for it - I just whisk mine to get rid of them.
The homemade custards don't seem to do that (eggs, sugar, milk, vanilla etc)

keep whisking while it cools. it does take a while tho. i just blend mine with the stick blender to remove the lumps.

I use the powder too. But I put a bit of milk in a jar, add the poweder to that, shake well then add to warm milk and stir it while heating gently. That stops the lumps.
