Hey There.
I have stumbled upon a book called 'Save Our Sleep' by Tizzie Hall.
It talks about the process of getting your baby/child to self settle in his/her cot/bed. It follows a strict routine to develop a day routine that helps with nights... and addresses feeding issues.
My little Ollie (5.5 month old) catnaps throughout the day. He is being demand fed, he wakes a horrendous 6-9 times a night (even though I have introduced solids and keep him snug and warm at night). He even sometimes wakes at 2am for a 2 hour playtime session (which I do NOT indulge him by chatting and playing in return) I feed/ offer him the breast often throughout the day. He is very clingy (although this is normal, he becomes hysterical if I leave his view). So I decided enough is enough.
Sleep times are done like this acording to the technique:
...put baby into his cot and tell him he is to sleep for min of 80mins. Leave the room for 12 mins.
(Ollie will scream and cry for that whole 12mins. First its an angry cry... but you must leave him unless it becomes an 'emotional cry')
After the 12mins, you enter the room and sit by his side not picking him up to console, just cuddle/ pat/ stroke in cot till he falls asleep. You for console for 45mins.
I have been doing this for 2 days...
I was wondering if anyone has heard/tried/failed/success with this technique? Could you please tell me if it ACTUALLY works? I am finding it really tough and my little Ollie is becoming so upset.
My little guy catnaps... has done so since the day he was born. When in my arms, he will sleep for 2 hours, with this technique, he will sleep for no more than 20mins in his cot. Also he is a lazy feeder, he will drink only one breast per feed even though both are offered (with a burp in between). This means he is only too happy to stretch the feeds out, but still drink from only one side! :(
I cannot help but feel that this is a cruel way of doing things, am I just to soft on my little boy? Will the crying make him feel abandoned? is it harming him? will it work? Is it REALLY that different to controlled crying (which I am utterly against)?
HELP?!
poll: bad idea to continue, or good idea?
