DS had a low-grade fever on Monday night/Tuesday morning. About 37 - 37.5. Too low to medicate for but enough to show that something was up.

On Tuesday, he developed pimply spots over a couple of old mozzie bites. By Wednesday night, he had little red pimples all over his bottom and legs with some on his arms. By Thursday afternoon, they were all over his legs and arms and still all under his nappy (quite big now) and some on his face. By Friday AM, they were almost all gone and as of today, they are completely gone.

I didn't take him to the Dr as they weren't on his trunk, he had no other symptoms, not even the fever although he was off his food quite a bit. The Dr would tell me it was viral which I kinda figured.

Now that it has gone though, I wonder what it was. Any ideas ?

Sounds exactly like the rash DD2 has been having on and off since she first had it with fevers a couple of weeks ago - two trips to the doctors have brought the diagnosis of a viral rash with dermititis. No further explanation. It hasn't bothered her but it worries me so I wouldn't mind an explanation either!

Ry is feeling much better today although it might have been the ice cream with sprinkles for dessert..:D

Will let you know if I find out any more. I've googled a stack of sites and can't track anything definitive. Don't you love the - oh, it's just viral.....it could be anything.....

Hi,

Just wondering if he just had his 6 month needles cause all my children after they had there 6 month needles got a rash and fever (went to the doctor with all you would think i would lern after the 1st one) and they told me that it's baby measules (spekking) just a side effect because it's a live vacine, and was nothing to worry about nd would go away in a few days just to give them pandol to help with the temp.

That might be something to think about if your baby had the needles recently.

Hope this helps

Hi Rynosmum
Roseola (sp?) has a red rash that comes out once the associated fever breaks. It's not serious, and once the rash comes out the kiddie is on the road to recovery. Not sure if that's what Ryan had though?

Cheers

Hi Kim, he's just about 20 months and his last needles were a few months back, although you've just reminded me that his is overdue for his Chicken-pox needle so I'd better do that one.

X, I was hoping you'd be here :D I might look that up as well - I don't know too much about it. Does it return or is it a one off ?

Hi RynosMum
I'm pretty sure its a once off (mostly) like chickenpox, once you've had it, you don't get it again (I could be wrong though - I don't think either of mine has had it at all).

Cheers

Yeah im thinking Roseola .... Bubs had this a few weeks ago now & had me very stressed with a temp of 39.5 for 2 days !
He ended up having some antibiotics but i personally think he fought it by himself as by the time we started it he was on the road to recovery.
Anyways hopefully he is all good now & stays that way :D

Chloe has this right now, she got some mozzie bites on her legs a couple of days ago & yesterday i noticed that they looked like pimple cause they had white tips on them & today she has this horrid rash all over her lil bum.
No matter what i use on it the spots wont go away.

Kimmy, you're right ! That's how Ry's started. The spots came up in his mozzie bites first and then spread everywhere except his tummy and chest. I use Paw Paw ointment but I don't know that it improved things - the rash got steadily worse over 2 days and then disappeared.

He was obviously feeling much better today - his appetite and good nature is back. Thursday was by far the worst - he was miserable and cranky.

Let us know how it progresses and what you find out !

OK, I've looked it up in a book that reminds me of my little old great auntie Meg (otherwise known as "what to expect in the toddler years" :D )

Roseola
Symptoms: irritability, loss of appetite, fever of 38.9 - 40.5 for 3 - 7 days. After fever returns to normal - faint pink spots that blanch (turn white) with pressure on body, neck, upper arms and sometimes face and legs.

Call the doc to confirm diagnosis (isn't she a careful old auntie :D ) and again if fever lasts for more than 4 days, has convulsions or seems ill.

Treatment: Symptomatic (I guess this means panadol or equiv for the fever?)

Recurrance: Apparently none (what old auntie Meg means here I have no idea)

Hope this helps

Hehe - I know. DH had suggested the 'Clive' as I still had Snr Member there and I had told him about the similar names. Cheeky bugger but any positive involvement he has in BH, the better.

There's another KM now too - although a little different spelling.

As far as viruses go there are so many out there that Drs will not usualy be able to diagnose it with out a lot of blood test and even then it may not be posible. The rash sound exacty like DD had a while back and when we took her to the Dr we were told it was an allergic reaction to the virus. It is quite common and starts out as what looks like little mossie bites which then spread into large blotches which can cover most of the body. DD just needed some antihistamine for 2 days to stop the rash.

DS (7 months) was just diagnosed with a viral rash today. It stemmed from the gastro he had last week. He is covered with red bloitches, that fade to red dots. It is moving around his body. The doc said it is contagious, but nothing to worry about as long as bubs is happy and healthy otherwise.

How is that for a first week at Creche, gastro and a viral rash, I am not sure I ever want to send him back again! I knew he would get ill at childcare, but I did not think I would have to ask for 2 days off (out of a 3 day week) in my second week back!

It does seem like 'Virus" is the answer to everything these days, what did they say before, teething??
