Anyone know how to get rid of old ones or prevent new ones?? I didnt have one stretch mark before I fell pregnant, and now that I am pregnant again I dont want to get more (not that there is much room left on my body for new ones.......you are lucky that I love you DD!!!!)

i know you dont want to hear this, but its very impossible to make them disappear :P
i have tons of stretch marks , and i also have no more room for anymore!
however after my 2nd pregnancy i had a 6-7 year break before my next pregnancy and in that time they faded dramatically.
theyre all still there but just faded.
i have heard you can get a laser surgery done to help it. but remember it is the skin underneath that is torn.. so cant really repair that hey
anyways maybe look into the laser proceedure, if your serious about it.

think i will one day in the future !
good luck

Yeah I didnt really think there was much I could do to get rid of the old ones (mine have faded too since having my DD - she is now 5) I guess I am more worried about getting new ones this pregnancy. Anyone know any miraculous cream that prevents them???

I knew a lady who was a quite small build that has had two pregnancy's and not one stretch mark and she puts it down to rubbing apricot kernal oil (i think it's from nutrimetics) on her belly, hips and bum everyday for her pregnancy. I ordered mine too late as the day it came in I got my first stretch mark!!! Bummer, but she swears by it. It's not a moisturiser - although there is one like that, it's orange sort of colour and you get it out of the tub with a little spatula type thing. Hope this helps!

I can imagine that apricot kernel oil doing the trick - it's called nutri-rich oil. It's quite expensive though, I think $40 a tub.

The thing I use is called bio-oil ($12.95 from the chemist) and it has prevented more stretch marks from pregnancies #2 and #3. I've still got lots of silvery grey ones from 5 years ago though - don't think they're going anywhere

I too used Bio-Oil i just used to put it all over my belly and tops of thighs, i think you can also put a few drops into the bath and soak in it (as long as it's not too hot). hope that helps :)

I am using some oil called "belli" oil. I rub this in every day followed by pure shea butter that I bought from perfect potion. I dont know if it will do the trick, but I find that massaging my bump in the evenings with oil is quite relaxing and I feel like I am bonding with bub iykwim

I was just wondering at what stage stretch marks start to appear. I am 21 1/2 weeks now. I have been massaging a concoction of belli oil and bio-oil followed by the shea butter. My tummy feels so soft and smooth and if nothing else it does feel pampering. I was just wondering if there is a particular stage that they start to appear?

Pure Rosehip Oil worked for me...Reeeeeeally expensive, but if you rub it in while the marks are still pink, it should work.

I was positive I was prone to stretchmarks (considering I have some from when I was about 15), but when I got pregnant I thought I'd do everything in my power to prevent them. Yes, I moisturise everyday after my shower, but the thing I put most faith in is Zinc supplements...

Zinc is good for skin repair and recommended for during pregnancy anyway. Bottom line - no stretchmarks last pregnancy (belly or boobs) and none this pregnancy so far:smiliedance: - 22.5weeks (touch wood). Another supplement which is supposed to be good is fish oil - I put a lot more trust into what we put into the body as the stretch marks come from a lot deeper than the surface that moisturisers act on - however, the massage which we give our bodies with moisturisers has to be beneficial too.

I used bio-oil from very early in my pregnancy and thought it was working wonders.....until I hit 32 weeks and overnight I got two strechmarks and now 4 weeks later I have about 52. :crying:

I truly think it's in your genetics, my Mum had lots of strechmarks so I think I was always doomed. My SIL never used any oil or cream and she has none.

However, I'm still using it in the desperate hope that it will help them to fade afterwards. It's not that expensive and you don't need to use much so it can't hurt. I would be very hesitant to spend alot of money on something because the chances are you will get them anyway. But I'm probably just bitter

I had my DS at age 42 and thought that I'd be covered in stretchmarks afterwards due to my age and the elasticity not being like it use to be so I bought Palmers Cocoa Butter Formula with vitamin E collagen & elastin and rubbed it all over my belly and boobs after showering twice a day and I never got one stretch mark on my belly or boobs.

so it worked for me either that or my skin was in better condition than I thought and I had a huge belly with a 9lb 8oz (4.320kg) baby to show for it.

This might sound really wierd, But I have been doing some research on moisturising etc and read that if you massage honey into your stomach before showering it increases your skins ability to retain moisture?? Sounds interesting, but very sticky!!
I have some zinc lozenges in the cupboard, I might give them a go. It wouldnt have occured to me to take zinc in pregnancy. I originally bought the zinc because I get rough skin on my upper arms. The naturopath recommended that I cut out wheat from my diet and take a zinc supplement. Then I found out I was pg and stopped taking all my supplements and started taking elevit instead

Just a quickie on Zinc - the chelated Zinc is the best one - a lot of the multis have zinc etc in them, but if you really want benefit from supplements, then you have to take the individual (eg Iron, Folate, zinc etc) ones. You can check the concentrations on the bottles and see this for yourselves.

You are 100% correct aprilbaby! In my previous life I worked in marketing for cosmetic/skincare companies, and there is nothing that will prevent stretchmarks. Don't you think if there was something out there - and it was proven to work - that it would be bought by the gallon load and would be hugely expensive! (marketing ploy).

I used oils and all sorts of things with my 2 pregnancies and still ended up with them. It was only when my mum pointed out that during puberty, I had loads of small stretch marks all over my hips, that I finally thought I must be predisposed to them. :banghead:

Good luck with all the oils and potions, but I think you are doing exactly what the skincare companies want you to do...and that is, increase their sales!!

I have to disagree with the predisposition that if you're going to get them then you will - that would mean that because I got them when I was a teen (on my hips and thighs) then I must be predisposed and shouldn've got them in my pregnancy - didn't happen. I agree that no moisturiser gets to the layers of skin deep enough to make a difference, but from my knowledge of scar management - massage is good for scars (this is what stretch marks are), so using a moisturiser and massaging your belly is good for your skin and your baby.

This is the reason that I stand by the fact that supplements are the best way to prevent stretch marks - just wish I'd known when I was 15 what I know now - I might have prevented the marks on my thighs and hips.

when i was pregnant i always used almond oil and rubbed it into my belly. Not so much for the stretch marks prevention but because when i did it my bub would give me a good kicking! lol

But in the end... i got no stretch marks on my belly... But i didn't rub the oil into my bum and thighs and they are riddled with stretch marks now! So i don't know what helps....

Just thought I would add to this. There are many very expensive creams and potions out there for preventing stretch marks and I don't really know if they work or not but a few posts here refer to Apricot Kernel oil. You don't have to spend mega bucks on this-you can but it from suppliers of raw materials for about $12 for 200 mls. It's a reatively easily product to get hold of and doesn't have to cost a fortune. I know a supplier in Hallam, Victoria (mail order available) and another in Sydney (also mail order) if anyone wants the contact details. Let me know if you are interested.:)

I used Shea Butter with my first preg and got hardly any stretchmarks but only had a 1260gram baby...

I used palmers cocoa butter with my second and got my fair share of stretchmarks...

I decided this time that the creams dont work anyway so only use palmers when they get itchy and well.... the amount of stretchmarks has basically doubled.... glad I've found my lifelong partner cos no one else is ever seeing this stomach...

I saw it but wasn't convinced that the people who used it on their stretchmarks actually looked any different (especially considering the steep pricetag and the fact that they were applying it 3times a day).

I'm now 26.5weeks, still taking zinc (a lot cheaper) and no stretch marks.

My ones (not from my pregnancy - from when I was 15 and got them on my hips and thighs) are still white when I get any colour. Those ones are 18years old  I feel pretty good about the fact that I don't have any from my DS (or this one :fingerscrossed: yet) as I'm sure my skin's stretched a lot more with the 14kg I put on with the pregnancy than the bit of weight I put on as a teenager.

You'd think as a reward for losing weight, God wouldn't give us stretchmarks - LOL. (Also very impressed with the guy losing the 25kg!)

PS. Just a little handy bit of info - I was looking at my emu oil cream last night, its Papillon brand, emu oil with vitamin E and has tags on it for $2.00 for 500g.

Seems like a very cheap option and is definitely working for me so far... not sure where you get it from though....

What does Emu oil smell like? I have heard that it is a bit strong? I am currently addicte to the clarins body tonic oil, I dont know if it will work, but the smell is just mmmmmmm!!

I had horrific stretch marks after DD - most of which appeared in the last couple of weeks.

I bought some Bio-oil post PG (D'oh!) and it seemed to fade them really, really quickly. I've had stretch marks before from losing/gaining weight & they've never faded any where near as quickly.

I also used the Bio-oil on my c/s scar & it faded that quite quickly also. I was sceptical at first, but I will be investing in the larger size bottle as soon as I fall PG with #2!!

Sorry to tell you, but I used this too & I ended up a walking survey map!! The only thing I found helped was after the fact using the Bio-Oil. I'll definitely be using it right from the start for #2!! Who knows if it'll help, but it's sure worth a try!

Also on the genetics bit - my mum had 3 kids (4 pregnancies) and not a single stretch mark!
