DD had thrush last week, we bought Resolve Plus 1.0 from a chemist and it got rid off the rash almost completely. We have been using for almost a week but yesterday the thrush reoccured. Why is that? I'm sure I didn't do anything wrong. I double rinsed all her clothes and nappies, I didn't use anything new besides cotton terry towels and Tots Bots.
I'm not sure if I can keep using the cream because I read it somewhere that it shouldn't be used longer than...say...a week or 10 days? The cream contains Hydrocortisone 1% w.w. Should I use it again or give it a little rest and apply later?
Why does she continue to have thrush anyway? Is it true that some babies are prone to nappy rash no matter how often the nappy is changed and will not be free of nappy rash until they're out of nappies? :(

Hi Ying,
Just want to know if you've tried canestan?
K had a rash too and my friend who is a pharmacist suggested I mix canestan with a barrier cream and it worked like a charm :D

No, I haven't tried Canesten...is it the same cream that we use for tinea and fungal? I'll ask a pharmacist on Monday then. So you mix it with Sudocream and apply on the affected area? Is it ok to put it on the nappy area and groin?

Yes, the same cream..I mixed it with Silic15 barrier as I that is the barrier cream I use mostly. No problem to put it on groin area. It cleared up completely in two days, but you still have to use it for at least a week.

Forgot to add that the generic brand of canestan is called Clonea. Its exactly the same, but a lot cheaper :)

Thanks Kaidensmum, I'll try Canesten mixed with Sudocream then as that's the barrier cream I use. Ususally this cream clears up the rash in a few days and I've been using it continually. I was planning to stop this weekend because it's been a week and her thrush's gone, now it's back!

Not sure but maybe its from bathing her ?
My cousin had terrible trouble with one of her girls & that ended up being cause she was in the bath too long for one as well as the bath wash she was using.
Ive had to cut bubs back to what i did as newborn as he got a bad nappy rash then worked out part of the prob was him being bathed every nite so i went back to every second !
Hopefully KM's advice works a treat otherwise :)
Hope all comes good for your gorgeous little thing !
Good luck :)
You probably have but I thought I'd just double check - have you had it properly diagnosed as thrush by your Dr or health nurse? Thrush is different to nappy rash as it is a fungus that's present on the skin of most adults but is usually not a problem. If it is thrush, being out of nappies will not make a difference.
I've been told that the best cream for thrush is 'Daktozin' (sp?). It contains the antifungals that will clear up the thrush in the nappy area as well as being a barrier cream. You then have to make sure you clean all nappies, clothing, towels and bedding as well to make sure that you don't reinfect her. Babies/children should always have their own dedicated towels so they are not sharing with other family members and become reinfected from them.
You should consult your Dr if it is ongoing. If it is not thrush, let us know and we can try and help you find a solutioin for the nappy rash. Hope it clears up soon.

Ally, don't think it has anything to do with what's in her bath coz I don't use anything, just plain water. I'm quite cautious about using bath products as DD has eczema.
Lucy, yes it's been diagnosed by her GP. We thought it was eczema (really how can you tell if it's rash, eczema, thrush?) no wonder none of eczema creams works. Resolve Plus worked really well the first time, her thrush had almost completely gone. I thought I'd use it for a few days to avoid reoccurence but somehow it came back. I don't remember I used anything new (creams, medicine, nappies, detergent) with her. I use either Omo sensitive powder or Amolin liquid laundry to wash her nappies and clothes. I set water temperature at 60 degrees and double rinse. I was told I could try rinsing with vinegar or Canesten laundry rinse, I haven't tried that yet. Now I'm confused, I'm not even sure if the rash on her nappy area now is thrush because the fungal cream doesnt seem to get rid of it like last time. I'm going to take her to the GP again next week and also ask about Daktozin cream. Thank you for giving advice, I'll certainly let you know how it goes with the GP and will definitely need your help with all the nappies questions ;)

Hrmmm yeah its sounding like you have gotten rid of the thrush & maybe the underlying "rash" thats left may be her eczema or just a plain nappy rash mmm hard to say really isnt it  Poor thing !
Id definatlely head back to the doctors as it sounds like a new path of treatment is needed !
Hope all goes well let us know :D
