My dd is almost 3. She has been wearing undies since Easter. She will go to the toilet (with some resistence) when I ask (tell) her to go and often does wees and occasionally poos. She has even taken herself off to the toilet to do a poo without me knowing on 2 or 3 occasions. However, lately she seems to have lost all interest in using the toilet. She is having wee and poo accidents in her undies, sometimes within 10 minutes of me having her on the toilet. She just refuses to tell me that she needs to go to the toilet (she obviously feels the urge, because she's taken herself a few times). I have tried reward charts, lollies and have given lots of praise etc, but nothing seems to work.

I am now debating on whether to put her back in nappies (don't want to after 3 months in undies). What should I do? How can I encourage her to tell me that she needs to go to the toilet? I'm so unsure what to do next...

Thanks for bumping this up...

She's still the same. Will go if I put her on the toilet, but refuses to tell me if she needs to go. Her sppech is great for her age, so no concerns about her not being able to articulate what she want.

I'm this [-] far away from putting her back in nappies. This has been by far THE most difficult/frustrating/disheartening thing that I've had to deal with a parent.

Hang in there Sarah. I tried a few times and put DD back in nappies, but she was never as close to it as your daughter seems to be. She finally caught onto it in the 2 weeks after her 3rd birthday.

I think sometimes it takes them some time to learn to recognise the signals from their body and realise that they need to go. Especially when it's more fun playing - she just might not want to stop her activity.

Dont get too disheartened. My son was exactly the same, until one day my mum (his fave Nan!) said if he pooed and weed in the toilet for 2 weeks (i thought he wouldnt understand the long time) then Nan would buy him a big suprise (he wanted a big Thomas Tank engine book).
He did this and everytime he pooed on the toilet we rang his Nan and told her. Obviously lots of praises and a few lollies along the way helped. But they have to be ready.
He is toilet trained now and i am just trying to work out the night time training! Another hurdle!

Goodluck! Check out the Huggies website for more tips too.
