I need help from any of you girls that are personal trainers or have had these before. U sed to get them when i was younger from hockey and now that i have really start training hard at the gym with alot of high impact classes9ie body step , lite pace and boxing) they seem to have come back with a vengance.
I need to know what i can do to stop the comming and to get rid of them now. I really dont want to stop training because im finally starting to lose weight. I really need help here. Im kinda desperate because i go back to the gym on monday and i really want to have them fixed or at least alot better by then.

Sometimes if they are that bad you actually have to stop a lot of the exercising you are doing. My old gym instructor ended up having to give up her job due them being so severe.
When i started getting mine i had to remember to tap my toes anytime i was sitting down so obviously while at the computer is the perfect time or watching telly !
Tapping your toes helps strengthen the muscle which in turn helps the problem.
Im sure someone will have other much better advice especially if its severe !
Good luck.

I have nothing to help you with but my mum who is a personal trainer had them and I can remember how painful they are! Take it easy and I hope someone can help you!!
Hi Iam a personal trainer the technical term for this is periostitus which would be from doing all the jumping in your classes The only way to get rid of it is to put you legs in a elevated position and put ice packs on them (not ice directly) something like a bag of peas. Give them a rest for a few days and maybe look at getting some shoes wih better heal support.. You wont have to stop exercising just stop doing the bouncy ones untill it goes away. Maybe cycle instead..unfortunatley its not something that can be cured. But you can help speed your recovery by doing the rest and Ice.. hope this helps
My DH is a triathlete and gets shin splints when his glutes (butt muscles) are too tight (sounds great doesn't it) but he runs and cycles for up to 3 hours each day 7 days a week.
Anyway the physio gets him to do stretching exercises and one of them is by sitting in a chair and putting one leg up on his knee and pushing down on it to stretch the glutes. I know this helps, might be worth a try.

The problem with this is periostitus is acutually the oposite the muscle has stretched and has become sore from overuse.. Stretching wont help.

You wont get shin splits from tight glutes!!! It is an overuse problem and high impact issue. Rest and ice. Go see a podiatrist and you may get some orthotics. Helped my daughters boyfriend and he ran a half marathon recently. Also caused by doing too much too soon. Make sure you have the best fitting shoes, cushioning and support. There are plenty of other cardio ways of losing weight, so don't be discouraged. Accupuncture could help. Check a website like coolrunnings for FAQ on the topic for all the info you need.
the best thing i did for mine was fork out for the BEST running shoes with the MOST front cushioning i could find(and i wear runners cos I run lol) for classes I would get a cross trainer, more support for side to side movements. :)

I used to get shin splints from just WALKING before I got the correct orthotics in my runners - I have incredibly high arches and the shoes I was wearing just didn't support the muscles of my foot properly, and I was getting too much impact from just walking.
My advise would be to go see a podiatrist, and then go from there....
