Hi there
We are having our 3.5 year old's hearing checked... its been getting progressively worse, and we need to repeat ourselves over and over to get her attention. She stands about an inch away from the TV and my friend said 'maybe she cant hear it' and then the penny dropped.
I was wondering if there other parents out there who have children with some, severe or moderate hearing loss.
Can it happen at this stage of her life? She has very clear speech for her age.
we are concerned and baffled. I guess once we get it checked we will know whether she is just ignoring us, or genuinely cant hear us!!!!

I hope it isnt so! Who knows maybe she is ignoring you.....My children can be told many times 'something' and they dont even flinch, with me, but as soon as DH says it they jump stright up and 'react/move':o
All the very best!
I hope that you get to the bottom of it soon. Maybe it is something as simple as glue ear? When are you going for her hearing check?

My daughter is one and has mild to moderate hearing loss in both ears, caused by a genetic disorder, she wears hearing aids and they are really straight forward to use. There is lots of support out there for hearing loss, I hope you don't need to use it though!!! Good luck

Our baby no. 3 was born with a cleft palate, and we were told that she may have fluid in her ears, which would mean that she wouldn't hear properly, but if that was the case, they would put gromets (tiny tubes ) in her ears to drain the fluid. When we took her home, i thought i'd won the lottery because she slept so well, (Baby No. 2 screamed for hours on end and every single noise woke her up!) nothing seemed to worry her etc, but i also thought she could hear just fine because it seemed to us that she responded to our voices etc.But after her hearing test was done at around four weeks, they told us she could only hear really loud noises and our voices were only muffled sound to her. While they told us it was all treatable, it was still pretty hard to absorb. We were told to just raise the noise levels in our house and not to panick. When Hannah had the cleft repaired, they put the grommets in, and she looked at us really funny when she could hear everything so loud and clear! What you're describing is what my mother said i was doing at about age 4-5 and i too had gromets put in.Anyway, good luck with the test, hope all goes well!
