View Full Version : Do they sedate older kids??
I am taking my 2yr old DS to Paediatric Urologist next week. He has a very tight foreskin and has slight balooning when he wees. Apparently there is steroid cream they may use first but if they have to circumcise him I would want to be with him as he is so aware because of his age. I am asuming they would sedate him??...I have no idea how I would hold him down, he is so strong. Anyone had this before, just want to be prepared and did they let you go in??

Not sure exactly with that procedure but I'm pretty sure they use a patch on their hand which slowly makes them go to sleep, not sure if it numbs anything..but they use this on 5 year olds so I would say they would do something similar with a toddler.....
Hope all works out for you!
Thanks subaruforestermum:)

To answer your question they will more than likely give him a general anaesthetic. My DS1 had the same procedure at the age of 2yrs. They gave him sleepy gas first then took him into the operating room.
Thanks ladies for the info much appreciated!!
Thanks tjfaz85...that is reassuring..I guess we will have to wait and see tomorrow..I'm sure these specialists all have there different ways. I think my DS would be very interested in the jellybeans aswell!!

Do you mean use a painkiller? A sedative is not a painkiller. For example, Largactil is a sedative used to dope up psych patients.
He has a very tight foreskin and has slight balooning when he wees. I think this is common for a 2 year old.
There is some information on ballooning at
