heya im after a potato bake recipe..
any help would be great. ta!
Hi, heres my recipe..
Slice up potatos thinly (about 4 or 5),
dice bacon (2-3 rashers) and
dice onion (1/2 maybe a bit more)
Put a layer of potato then sprinkle with bacon and onion and repeat till all used or dish is full.
Pour over about 150 - 200 ml thickened cream (cream up to about half way IYGWIM) cover with alfoil and bake on about 190 for 25 minutes.
Take of alfoil cover with greated cheese and bake for another 20 or so minutes.. Either till golden brown or a bit darker for a really crunchy top..
Sorry measurements are not exact I have been making this since I was really young and have never really followed an exact recipe.
Good luck, its the yummiest!
P.s if you dont have any cream I have made it using tinned light and creamy - evaporated milk... and I think I have even used just milk in the past. It is just not quite as creamy.

This is similar to the way I make it, but I add a little garlic and have half cream and half milk so that it's not too creamy. I warm the cream and milk a little in a pan on the stove first and then pour it over the top.

I rub crushed garlic (from a jar) and butter thinly around the edge so it doesnt stick...
Then either sliced potatoes layered in nicely, pour cream and grated cheese...bake until soft and golden brown on top.....yumm...
Or I dice the potoates and par cook them
Brown some Bacon, or ham...
Put them together in the same pre-prepared dish, pour over cream, sprinkle with cheese and shallots..... Cook until soft and golden brown...
Both beautifully yummy, and not too creamy as I dont add heaps of cream...

hi there this is the way i make it.
I dice some potatoes and boil them until almost soft.
Then i cut up some onion, diced ham or bacon and garlic and some butter and put it in the microwave for about 4-5mins. I put the potatoes in a baking dish and pour the onion, ham, garlic, butter on top.
I then pour some cream on top and then mix it all around. Then top with pizza cheese or mozerolla or tasty whatever you prefer. You only need to keep it in the oven until the cheese is melted because the potatoes were almost cooked anyway.

Mine is really basic...but then you can add bacon, onion, etc to the layers if you want to.
Slice potatos thinly and layer in a greased oven dish. In between the layers alternate between sprinkling flour (to thicken the sauce) and salt & pepper. Pour over milk to cover almost to the top of the potatos, cover and cook in 180-200 degree oven. No idea how long it takes to cook, I usually check it after about 30mins. When it is almost cooked, remove cover, sprinkle grated cheese over top and cook until the cheese is brown.
Layers of potato & sweet potato is yummy, pumpkin is also good :)

loving the idea of sweet potato layers too! cwsmum.. what a fab idea!
will let yous know how i go! thanx heaps again :hugs:
Glad we could help :D Good luck!
Yeah sweet potato is awesome in it!! I usually just do 1 or maybe 2 layers of the sweet pot cause it has a strong sweet flavour.
You can also sprinkle some frozen mixed vegies in between each layer with the bacon and onion too.. makes it more of a vegie bake
Enjoy!!

I agree, sweet potato is awesome in it , i do it with that sometimes, and sometimes pumpkin.
I layer potato, diced bacon & diced onion (buying diced bacon from the deli, and frozen diced onion makes it so easy to chuck together...i'm lazy! :D), cream on top, then cook until taties are nearly cooked through, add grated cheese on top, and brown!
Something i also do for a change is to cook some sausages, chop 'em into say 2-3 cm pieces and layer them in there along with tiny broccoli/cauli florets, sliced carrot, and peas/beans. Makes it a whole meal then!
