Hi there just wondering if anyone is in the same boat as me or not??? My gyn is checking on me every four weeks for app. I mean its good coz at this stage we see our baby twice a month but its costing us a fortune!!!! I didn't realise when you add up all the scans and tests and app. I reckon I've spent $1000 already and thats no joke??? anyone else the same

Don't get me wrong i'm glad with previous health issues. I didn't know being first child. But public patients said they don't go that often. I am seeing dr manely she is really good and thourough but one of my scans was going to be five weeks away and they said that meant my app would be 6 and that she had to check me before that.

My appointments are every 4 weeks at the moment... But my OB doesn't do U/S in the rooms... With DS I got to hear the heartbeat once in his rooms and it was towards the end of the pregnancy...

Dr Manley is good. Sounds fine. they always seem to watch you a bit closely first pregnancy as they dont know what your body is likely to do. my second time was more relaxed i think as they knew that last time it was a boringly normal 9 months and chances are it would be again. (and it was)

With DD (I did shared care with my GP (i'm a public patient)) I had my appointments once a month, completely normal from what i've heard. This time around i'm going to the hospital for all my appointments (public system still) and again will go once a month. Until I have my first hospital appointment i've been seeing my GP once a month.

Sounds all very normal to me! However I still only have the standard ultrasounds (dating, NT and morphology)

Sounds normal to me and it does get bloody expensive.

When I had my miscarriage last year, we spent around $600, on 3 scans, ob visits & gp visits and the pg only lasted 6wks.

I've just about reached my Medicare threshold so my rebate should nearly cover the costs from now on.

Thats good then I have just spoken to a few people who reckon I'm going alot. Then I got paranoid there was something the dr weren't telling me. I have extreme faith in my dr. She's good. She does scans in her room each visit as well. OH well I can stop stressing now then.

Don't panic Sairpaul, sounds normal to me. I have scheduled appointments every 4 weeks and then fortnighty from about 20 weeks and then weekly from 30 (?) I think. My OB also has an ultrasound in his rooms too so I guess it all adds up pretty fast.

He sent me out paper work at 6 weeks with all the details so I just assumed it was standard.

yep, im the same, its the same for most private ob's to se eyou every 4 weeks from 8 weeks, then fortnightly then weekly the further you get in.

my ob scans me every time i go, charges 29 but it is fully rebatable by medicare, even if you havent reached the threshold

I was public.

I saw my GP every 4 weeks, and my Midwife every 4 weeks. From 34 weeks I started seeing them every 2 weeks, so I saw them both last week... and I'll see them next week as well... AND my middie is coming to my house to formulate my birth plan with me and DH...
and then from 38 weeks I'll see her every week.

and I've paid... NOTHING. :smiliedance: gotta love public health care.

plus... u do realise there is no specific reason you HAVE to have scans... there's actually not much research on how it effects developing babies... so the more you limit them is probably better unless ABSOLUTELY necessary (high-risk pregnancy)

I had a 12 week scan, and a 20 week scan... and I'm not having anymore. I know the gender, know there's no detectable abnormalities, and my middie can tell the position of bubs with her hands....

i had over 10 scans with my last pg... bleeding and lots of it
my bub is an angel and slept through the night...im talking 11 - 12 hours from 2 weeks...maybe we should be getting as many as we can:D

i see my doctor every 4 - 5 weeks...
its normal for 4 weeks till you 28 weeks -34 weeks
then fortnightly till 36 weeks
then weekly
