Hi Everyone,

I really need some help, me little 13 week old DD absolutely hates the car and screams. I have put dangling toys for her to look at, I sing to her, I talk to her, I make sure I give her a feed and a clean nappybefore I put her in the car. Take today for example, we went to the shops, it took 5 minutes after leaving home before she started screaming, I had to stop several times to try and console her and the shops are only 15 min away...WHAT CAN I DO? I really want to get out and about but am hesitatnt because everytime she cries.

ANY IDEAS !!

Thanks

hmmmm... toughy! G has pretty much always loved the car... So im not much help.

How big is your DD? Is she in a capsule or a convertable car seat? I have friends who's bubs hated the capsule, but were fine when they went into a reversed convertable.... Maybe she is alittle bit cramped? You said it took her a little bit before she started crying, so maybe its something in the seat???

DUnno.... Hopefully someone can help!

Maybe its the straps, are they cutting in or squashing you're baby's tummy - maybe a little tight? Is the car too warm or cold?

Or maybe your baby just doesn't like her movement being restricted and she'll just have to get used to it.

:hugs: Hello

I know totally where you are coming from, DD also hated the car, from the moment she was born. She never slept in the car and hated it, until we turned her seat around. So it was about 6 months of hell:o

The best advise I can offer, is, be strong it will pass. She could get motion sickness???
Also find one of those kids mirrors (usually in witht he bath toys) and put that so she can see you does that make sense?
I thought it was DD could not see me that she hated it? Or maybe its like when you are on a train, and facing the wrong way while the train goes forward?

Hope is passes soon:fingerscrossed:

Thanks Ladies,

We have her in a reversible car seat and I think it is a little cramped for her already, she is 13 weeks old but already weighs 7.5kg and is 67cm in length. I also think that it is because she can't see me ( good point ).

When do they recommend bub can be turned around? Is it an age or a weight thing? It would have to do with head control wouldn't it?

I might just have to be strong..but it is so hard in the car.

Thanks

not so much age, but weight, height and head control....

We moved G really early as he was too tall and too heavy for it reaversed. have a look in the manufactures hand book it will tell you what that seat is designed for.

There was an ad on the side panel not long ago for a mirror thingo....

My DS was exactly the same. We tried moving him from a capsule to a backward facing carseat but it was no better. Like Rowiechb said, he never improved until he was forward facing.

My DS was exactly the same.

Is your bubs wrapped? My DS was wrapped and I think maybe he didnt feel secure in his carseat.

One day I couldnt stand it anymore and I chucked his blanket (the one he is usually wrapped up it) at him and he was quiet. Then every other car trip I just gave him his blanket and he was quiet.

Does your bubs have a blanket or a toy as security? Maybe that will help?

Hi, they now make a wrap to use in prams or car seats but they might not be cheap. My sister bought one a while ago from Babies Galore.

I just wish they made them when DD1 was a baby she also hated the car.

Music used to help sometimes.

Goodluck.:)

Layla really freaked out when we turned her car seat around (facing forward). I remember she cried all the way to sister in laws and all the way back home (1 hr drive each way). On the way back I sat at the back with her and played peek a boo, constantly putting the blanket on her face, I think the road, motion, feaked her out. Now she is much better but that went on for a bit. Every morning I take her to moms I place her blanket on her lap/legs and her pillow on her lap, more than often she hugs it, and it seems like some days she puts in front of her, maybe she gets car sick? Who knows. It much better now though but it took some time. I also tried toys, they would distract her for a bit before she started howling again.

Hi, i really feel for you because i had this problem also and made it sooo hard to concentrate on the road. Sometimes singing his favourite songs helped, but turning him around to face front was the only thing that really worked, although even still he has some bad days...grrrr!!!!

They say now that they have to be sitting up unassisted (thats what i was told by the ambulance), but the manufacturers of ours which is a safe n sound said between 8 and 12 kilos when they have full head control. It can be frustrating as everyone gives a different answer..the ambulance, RACQ, the Police and the manufacturer!!! In the end we went with what the manufacturer advised as they are the ones who have done the safety testing. Good luck!!

My DS hated the car when he was tiny - everytime I put him in in his car seat he would scream and scream. Eventually though he just got used to it and the whinging stopped. Your bubs might grow out of it too.
