Sorry I know that someone else has this type of thread somewhere, but I can't find it. My DD is nearly 9 months. I've tried to give her formula for about a week and she refuses to drink it. So I want to know when I can weaning to cows milk. My DS was 11 months but drank formula from 5 months. The doctor told me to wean her onto formula before cows milk, but do we have to? I know that it is probably due to the extra nutrients, but what if we give them something like pentavite with the cows milk????

Help please! TA

sorry I don't have an answer for you but I know someone who put their dd onto cows milk from formula at 10 months and is doing super now at 2.

My SIL started cows milk from 5 months but don't get me started there (I don't agree with it or the milo, nesquik, honey etc need I go on)

I'm still bf ds who is 7 months and have wondered the same question. Can I start him from 10 months or should it be the full 12 months.

I know times change...as they always do but i started mine on normal milk after finishing breastfeeding around 6 months.

This probably isnt the practice now.

We were told that at 9 months you can start to change them. The first week just do one bottle of cows milk a day and then week two they can have two bottles a day of cows milk and then the third week they can be fully on cows milk.
You will find that everyone is told something different. But this is what we done with our two boys and there is nothing wrong with them. And we plan on doing it with the next one as well.
Good luck. Let us know how you go.

After weaning DS1 from the breast @ 8mths, he went on to formula. While on the formula he bulked up (big time), so we decided at 10mths to try him on 50/50 cows milk and water (from the advice of my SIL who had done it with her two).

I tried it firstly in the morning only for a couple of days, there appeared to be no reaction, so I then changed it to the next feed and so on and so forth. Every few weeks or so I gradually increased the milk and decreased the water, so that by 12mths he was on straight cows milk.

The way I look at it, this is a better way of easing them into it, rather than suddenly on the day they turn 1 to put them straight on to cow's milk.

Each to their own - it worked for us (for both kids).:)
