DS sleeps well at night, on his own, in his cot but if I want him to have a decent sleep during the day it has to be either in my arms or in my bed with me. If I put him in his cot then he always wakes up after 30 minutes whereas if I hold him or leave him in our bed then he will happily sleep for two hours. I am worried that leaving him to sleep in our bed will set a bad precedence and that he is going to want to sleep in our bed at night as well. Any suggestions?

If you don't mind lying down with him during the day, then I would just go with what works!!

Cross the night time bridge when if and when you come to it - chances are that if he's already a good sleeper at night he will continue to be. If the day sleep does seem to start to affect the night time one, then I'd worry about it then.

They grow up so fast! Enjoy all the cuddles you can get. It won't be too long until it so not cool to be within arms reach of mum

My DS is very similar (also only 3 weeks older than yours) - I think it's a comfort thing for him. I don't mind too much but I sometimes leave him in my bed and get up and do things and I find he sleeps better in my bed than if I put him in his cot.
Can't really offer any advice though I think it's pretty normal for bubs to be like that.

DD was exactly the same ( 6 and 1/2 months )! Self settles at 630 pm every night and sleeps through till 6am, but come day sleeps if I tried the cot she wouldnt go to sleep. she thinks its kick and play time or just grizzles. Would only sleep well in my arms or my bed with me. If I tried popping her in the cot once asleep she would wake after 20 mins.
This last two weeks I started trying again to popping her back in there once asleep my arms and today we even got a 1 hr 40mins and she self settled as well!!!!! We still have the odd times where she wakes after 20 mins though so I revert back to my arms/bed etc
If shes cranky because shes not slept well Ill let her sleep my arms for the next nap or go to my bed with her and nap as well :)
I would just keep trying but at those times where he or you need that bit extra then do what works. Thats what Ive been doing and I think given time we will achieve it. slowly goes it..
I try first to see if she will settle, if not ill take her in my arms to sleep then pop her back. So far I think we achieve half half

Oh forgot..yesterday we had a 2 hr afternoon one where she went in there awake and zonked out for 2 hrs easily. (exhausted from a day out though )
It is working..I think lol There is a definite improvement.

Layla went thru a phase like that, I needed to lay down with her for a nap and bed time, during the day as soon as she fell sleep I would get up and do stuff or just sleep with her in my bed, at night time, we would move her to her cot. That went on for a couple of weeks. I can't remember how or when, the routine changed to just laying down with her whilst she had her bottle, now we move her into the cot (for naps or bed time) while she is still awake, put her music thingy on and eventually (it takes her about 30-1hr to fall sleep for naps) she will fall sleep in her cot, bed time is quicker. She knows this routine now and is happy with it. As soon as you put her in the cot she wants to be covered with her blanket and she knows its sleepy time. Layla made a fuss at the start but I just left her, she got used to it, associating cot, blinds down, blanket, sleeping music with sleeping! Mom does the same, in her porta cot she goes for naps during the day. I must say though, that Layla only sleeps with me when she is sick. she wants the cuddles and security. Its like she doesn't like sleeping with me anymore anyways!
