Nail injury

3wks ago I slammed my thumb in the bedroom door while trying to turn the hall light on and it got me right at the base of my nail. The injury itself has cleared up. But the bottom half of my nail has turned a white colour and is really soft now. Plus it doesn't look like there is new nail growth....it is moving up as normal, but there is no new nail growth (does that make sense??).

Has anyone had a similar thing happen?

It was painful for the first 3 days and throbbing really bad, but I'm totally pain free now.

You'll probably find that the nail had come adrift fron the nail bed at the base. The nail bed supplies all the nutrients to keep the nail alive. What will happen is that the whit part will dry out and you may even pick bits off later. The rest of the nail beyond it will keep growing and you'll have to keep trimming your nail as usual.
Meanwhile, a new nail will grow under the white, dead part. You may not notice this for a few weeks.
