Advice needed for use of FENUGREEK

Ok i bought some today from my usless chemist who told me its not for breastfeeding and it won't help:rolleyes:
On the bottle it says for relief of mucus congestion,did i buy the right one:o ?
If i did get the right one how many pills do i take and for how long?

Shed usually takes hers with a few sips of yeasty beer. I just drink a lot of water with mine (which I don't take often).

Yep, that's the right one. The pharmacist would only know the 'classic' action for it - not all the other 'side' benefits. One of the chemical drugs - maxalon - which helps boost your supply is ACTUALLY an anti-nausea preparation, it wasn't designed for boosting supply - it just has that side effect, iykwim....so don't worry about the pharmacist. And I agree with Beany - in the future, if you've got a healthfood shop handy, go there for more alternative treatments - they tend to know what they're talking about a bit more.

I wonder if you can take it when preg, I still have some tablet's left over and now I have mucus congestion.

I had the 1000mcg fenugreek and was taking two tablets three times a day. I think twice the dosage on the back.

From memory I took 3 a day for a week or two until my supply was back on track. Be careful for poos that smell the same way the fenugreek tablets do (the baby's, not yours, I mean!)

I read on some info sheet my CHN gave me that keep increasing the dose until you notice some benefit or your sweat starts smelling like curry. I took 3 tabs 3 times a day and did so for a couple of months, then slowly decreased the dosage.

You can buy non alcaholic beers at Coles or Woolies, in the home brew section. $1 each. They taste nice too.

I'd like to know too. I'm 9wks pg and have a cold and the mucous is making my m/s worse again.

DS only just self-weaned a couple of weeks ago so I don't really feel like bringing my supply back on.

On another note, you may find that you do sweat a bit more while taking fenugreek. I was informed that the reason they work to increase milk supply is that it increases sweat production, and milk ducts are actually modified sweat glands!

Please someone correct me if this is wrong. But I found it very interesting just knowing how it all worked.

And if that is true, then wouldn't doing anything that increased sweat production help - like exercise?

It is not recommended to take fenugreek during pregnancy (particularly late pregnancy), as it is known to be a uterine stimulant.

That is a great page of info, thanks for that.
I had never noticed any link between the smell of fenugreek and that of maple syrup but when I opened my new bottle of capsules today the maple syrup smell was quite strong, I hope that I get that smell from the capsules rather than the curry smell I get from the sprouts!
I hope to have boobies like rock soon!
So does my husband, he s delighted with the prospect of a herb that makes you smell like maple syrup and grow giant boobies!
