You could bath him in QV Wash / Oil.
It's for dry sensitive skin. It's good for cradle cap also.
It works quickly and effective.

my lil man had very dry flaky skin when he was born and for about two weeks, I used baby oil and that did the job.

My bubs was the same. Nice skin all over but his belly button was dry and crusty.
The QV worked really well. We now use it as his normal bath wash everyday. It's gentle and safe to use daily, even for the whole family.

My lil one had it too.. at some stage. I Used alil baby oil on a cotton bud and cleaned it that way. It worked really well. My midwife said.. you have to be careful with what baby wash you use. And when you dry them off.. use a dry cotton bud to clean all the water out of the belly button. I took her advice and used it.. and it worked well. And once your on top of it. It goes away :)

The very best thing in the world for crusty belly buttons is paw paw ointment. It cuts through the gunge and makes it simple to remove with a cotton bud or tissue. Leave it on for about 5-10 minutes, tis brilliant:)
