Hello All
Now I know we have some switched on forum chatters out there.
So I would like to throw the chat open on my one daily vice.
COFFEE
I absolutely adore my one coffee a day - yet I am so aware of my growing bubbie in all aspects (don't even wear nail polish when preggie coz its bad for bub)
My coffee trip in to town keeps me sane (I live in a small country town and would go nuts otherwise)
Also I stick to coffee bean coffee, not instant as it is better for you.
OK - so while I am a bit worried about what I might hear - go ahead - let me know what you think!
Yours in aprehension!

Hi Jessie,
Don't worry, I won't scold you about your obsession!! :p. As far as I'm aware, so long as you have a max of 2 units (cups) of caffeine a day, it won't have any ill effects on your bub! (Yay for you!)
My vice was soft drink. I just made sure I didn't have more than 2 glasses a day. A family member on the other hand, had 2L of Coke a day  and her little boy had to be weaned off caffeine from birth and has a few health problems.
I guess everything in moderation is the key. ;)
hi jessie, i say savour your one cup of coffee a day, im sure it will not harm bub. i had one cup of tea a day (which actually contains more caffeine in it than coffee) and all my bubbies were perfect. i spent about 4 wks in RPA while pregnant with my DD and we were regulary offered cups of tea/ coffee for morning tea/ breakfast etc and all the midwives said it was just fine. good on you for being so protective of your little one though :)

Hi
I have done alot of reasearch on this (being an absolute fanatic first time mum) and one cup a day is fine. I actually only try and have one cup of coffee a week and the rest of days tea. Fresh drip coffee has a higher amount of caffeine instant has the least.
Tea actully doesn't have more caffeine than coffee but it does however interfere with how your body absorbs iron!! So I guess it is much of a muchness!! :)
Hope it helps and good luck!!
Hi Jessie!
I too was worried about the coffee thing but I read in a couple of different books
that up to 3 cups a day was fine, so I wouldn't worry about the 1 cup you're having just enjoy it! I havn't had any alcohol since pregnant but I don't think I would have been able to give up coffee I love it!

I pretty well lived on coffee when I was preggers with my first it was one of the only things I could drin k during the morning & late after noon. Try decaf coffee & other decaf drinks. My two are fine, but mind you my eldest has developed a taste for coffee flavoured dinks lately she preffers iced coffee moove to all other chocolate drinks. But i belive anything anything in moderation is fine.

Hello everyone - thank you so much for your lovely and supportive comments.
I was a bit nervous to check!
Firsttimemummy - great to see a researcher - just for interest sake with the instant thing, it isn't the caffine level that concerns me but all the other guff that they put in it.
Apparently (from a very good source but I can't prove it) they even add detergents to make it froth up.
Ewww!
With respect to the bubbie that has developed a taste for coffee - they keep winding me up at the coffee shop. As I go every day (small country town where people believe that coffee shop is a special treat type of occassion!) - they have sort of adopted Mickayla as their own.
They reckon her first word will be coffee!
I hope not - kinda hoping it will be 'tremendous' or 'splendid' maybe!!
Bye for now and thanks again - if you are ever in Murgon be sure to look me up for that coffee!!!
:p

If we all avoided the things that could potentially harms us or our growing babies we really wouldn't eat, drink or do very much at all!!
I think the key is everything in moderation. It certainly is a time in our lives that our diet and health are extremely important as everything we do affects our unborn babies as well.
I believe that you are on the right track. If we can manage to keep things like coffee, softdrink, hair dyes, nail polishes, etc, etc under control and to minimal levels I think we will all be fine.
Best of luck to you in your pregnancy.

Yes indeed!
It is hard not to be too paranoid about what you are intaking (or partaking) of.
Still it is too easy to just plead ignorant and consume whatever.
I definately aggree that moderation is the key.
I am loving the 'bubba in the belly' feel again - only a few weeks to go to get past that three month mark!
Bye for now
Jessie
