well in a few months we can offically get a new car yeah!!
We've looked at a Ford Territory we both like it but ive never had a 4WD looking car.
i like the fact it has 5 car seat anchour points(all rear seats).
i like the Kia Carnival
but DH absolutly has put his foot down to one of those.Hates them!!
i also like the Toyota Tarago.
it has lots of seats for when ive got my sister and sil and their kids, heaps of room for bikes etc. but hubby doesnt like bigger cars, he wants a sedan then he wants to lower it and add things to it...ARRH!
please help me decide which car we should get and if any advise or recommendations for/against a perticular car.thanks

My uncle has just bought a Ford Territory, the 6 cylinder one, when they had number 3 a few months ago. He recommends it highly.
I haven't heard many good things about the Carnival.

I have a ford territory and I find it great, it is small enough to get around places but alot of storage for prams, shopping etc.
My sil has a kia carnival (she had the old and now the new) the old was awful hence upgrading however there isnt much space for prams etc but the electric doors are a bonus!!1
good luck in your decision

DH just got a Territory as his work car. Very nice! He's happy with it and we can fit the three car seats across the back too. Takes a bit to get used to the height though - we've never been 4wd'ers either.
We have recently been looking at buying an SUV, we dont really need a 4WD as such but wanted the height and space of one (with a bit of sportyness). The main ones we were looking at were the Mazda CX-7 and Honda CRV. After many test drives and deliberating we have FINALLY decided to get the Honda CRV Luxury, we are infact going this weekend to have a final test drive and bring our pram along to see how it fits in the back before working on a deal. :smiliedance:
Good Luck!!
I personally wouldn't buy anything made by Kia. I've never heard a good thing about any Kia car.
Check out a Toyota Avensis....not as van like as a Tarago but still a 7 seater (if that's what you want) and might keep DH happy. It's what we have and we can't fault it. I'm a big fan of Toyota's though...as far as reliability goes in a car I just don't think you can beat them.

I would go the Ford Territory,
KIA in general make pretty cr@ppy cars.....the always have faults mechanically...never owned one, would never even consider owning one....your husband is right about that one...
Toyota Tarago, is a van right? Not a big fan of vans myself, mainly for the fact they are notorious for having bigger blind spots!
We havean AWD not a 4WD, but I like the Territory's, it has a more sporty style than regular/typical 4WD such as Landcruisers etc....
Hi,
We have friends that have the Territory and they love the space and room in it but are very disappointed with the fuel consumption as it is very thirsty. Theres is 2 years old now (I think) and they are looking at getting something else mainly because of fuel consumption and the cost of fuel for them. They do have a lot of room inside though.
I personally love the subaru outback if you are looking at other cars - they are an AWD and are absolutely beautiful to drive. We had one as a hire for 6 weeks and we loved it to pieces we have just been looking at buying one at the moment. Good luck with finding a car there are so many decisions to make.

i have a territory,i love it,its so nice to drive and i dont find its size a problem as its easy to park etc.....not like hubbys navara...
It is a bit thirsty but most large cars probably are, when i was working it got expensive but now just for local running around its great,a tank lasts me ten days...
Its great when we got out with another family cause we all fit in and have a great day out...id recommend it....

Toyota all the way!! Chuck a set of nice wheels on it... But if you don't like the "vans" try the Honda CRV or have you looked at the Suzuki Vitara??

I've been looking at the Toyota Kluger and the Holden Captiva. Still not sure about it. So this weekend we'll probably keep looking around - Nissan XTrail and perhaps the Ford Territory, going by these comments.

My hubby has owned around 120 cars in his life and loves researching them so when we decided to start a family he was pleased tro be able to research on a whole new front..
here are some of his ideas...
Kias are rubbish(seems unanimous) I think that all Korean cars are pretty dodgy !
Safety should be a priority, ford, honda and toyota are not super for their safety, european cars tend to be far superior.
I would get a late model second hand car if I was you as you can get a much better car for the same money and no GST etc.
We are only now selling our E230 Mercedes benz wagon which we have ahd for a record 18mths plus! It is one of the best in the world for safety has 7 seats and good fuel economy I love this car! it is so roomy and pretty stylish, It will be sad to see it go. We are now driving a lexus RX 330 which has a ridiculous number of airbags and is super flash inside but the fuel economy is not great.
People think that owning a car like a Benz or Lexus is expensive but your "average" cars are much more expensive if you buy them new and they are just inferior in engineering and safety compared to the European stuff.
Nissans tend to fall apart fairly quickly...
Its has to be the Ford Territory all the way..........Specially coming out of a person who hates Ford........

We've got a Toyota Kluger and I love it!
Being a bit higher than a sedan makes a huge difference on one's back when wrestling children in and out of car seats. It has the same engine as the Lexus but a helluva lot cheaper and it has the option of being a 7 seater, with the final row of seats being able to be stored flat in the floor so you don't lose any boot space. We got the leather seats so any spills can be cleaned up without staining. Take one for a test drive and you'll be impressed at how smooth a ride it is.
Oh what a feeling! :smiliedance:
If your DH is adamant on a sedan, I've driven the Toyota Aurion and that's quite a ride too!
Quick off the mark, handles extremely well, boot space is huge and the interior is quite schmick!
He he hee...guess who's hubby works for Toyota? :p

We are looking for a 7 seater too. I would give the Kia a wide berth unless the budget just won't go further, I have a friend with one and the engine blew up when it was just out of warranty.
The Territory is good, but you need to get the AWD 6 speed gearbox to get decent fuel economy and the 3rd row seat is just one big seat so it's really hard to fit in a big pram as well (our 3 wheeler didn't fit at the dealership).
The new Mazda CX-9 looks fantastic, we got a DVD from Mazda this week promoting it so I can't wait till I can actually test drive it to see if it really is as good as it looks.
A very surprising 7 seater is the new Hyundai Santa Fe Diesel. I would definitely suggest driving it, it is as smooth as my friends BMW diesel AWD and the inclusions and finish are just as good as a Japanese car. They can't keep up with supply on the diesel so I would think it would hold it's own when it comes to resale time. I had a Hyundai before my current car (Mazda) and it was a very reliable car. The top of the line model is around $45,000 so it comes in at $20,000 less than the Territory Ghia.
Good luck, it's a hard decision.

i too am looking at buying a new car soon. I currently drive a Hyundai and have done for a few years and they are fantastic cars, cheap to buy, cheap to run and very fuel efficient, no probs at all.
i love the new ford territory, my friends mum has one and they are very nice.
i too agree the kia is prob not a great long term option unless money is really tight.
i think the most important things to look at are petrol usage, space, functionality and your budget.
some of those bigger cars/vans/4wds are very expensive and cost a fortune in petrol, registration and insurance.
i did look at the new tarago and avensis and they are wayyy outta most peoples budgets...sad really cause they are really nice.
good luck in your search

i called around to some of the car dealerships ,i want to make sure all the 3rd row of seats have anchors and the car must have two isofit anchors aswell.
thanks everyone for your opinions
