I need some help with what to send DP ((and his brother/s)) for lunches. They have access to power but don't have anything but a toasted sandwich maker. At the moment I send Ham, Cheese, Salami, Tomato in small containers, with a loaf of fresh bread and they make their own toasted sandwiches with want they want but they're getting a bit sick of having the same thing over and over (not that I blame them). So was just wondering if anyone has any ideas. It can be anything from stuff that can be put into small containers and they can take with them to put on sandwiches (as long as it will last in an esky with ice bricks till lunch time) to stuff I can put on sandwiches and freeze to anything else....!:ecomcity: I just need help! lol. I can't send leftovers or anything like that because they won't eat anything unless it's been reheated:rolleyes: and they don't have anything to reheat it in... I'm at a huge loss as to what to give them.... please help:D

Yeah they would but they'd prefer a salad roll but would the roll go soggy after that long - lunches would be made at 5.30am and they won't get eaten till 1pm sometimes later..

I usually cook them first in the morning (only takes a few minutes) then i boil the kettle put the hot dogs in there and fill the thermos with hot water. We usually eat them about 4 hours later and they are boiling hot still like ouch cant eat hot haha so if you have a good thermos then they will stay nice and hot :) you can do curries and casseroles this way too but its worth investing the dollars on a good thermos not a cheapo :)

why cant the salad be in a separate container, they can make it themselves then same as tuna take a tin to share

re the salad rolls,
make sure that the soggy bits- tomato is in the middle of the whole roll- i have up against the bread cheese on one side and the meat on the bottom of the roll. My hubby is a truckie and we have no probs with sandwhiches going soggy.
I really like the hot dog idea! must try that one!

There have been a few threads on this - with some great ideas.. I did a search in recipes for *lunch* and if you search through you will find the ones about lunches for the men :D

I used to work in a Hotel and did lunches for all the truckdrivers.

We used to do them a sandwhich, hotdog roll and hamburger roll with any combination of the following:
(they were all done the night before and put in the fridge - and the truckies wouldnt eat them until lunchtime, never had any complaints about anything being soggy or needing to be heated etc)

Roast Beef/lamb/chicken/pork (deli sliced stuff would be fine) with pickles, relish or apple sauce (depending on the meat) and lettuce.

Ham or silverside, lettuce and cheese with gherkin spread, relish or pickles.

Cooked sausage or frankfurt with fried onions, cheese and sauce (on hotdog bun - wrapped in gladwrap whilst still hot)

Rissole/Bbq steak, sauce, lettuce, cheese and onions (on hamburger bun - same as hotdog roll)

Fried bacon and egg (chopped) with sauce on hotdog roll.

Bacon and egg pie - cut into thick slabs

Quiche - thick slabs again

Cold meats and salad rolled up in mountain bread (the flat bread).. no tomato unless pat it down with paper towel first and make sure it isnt touching the bread.

If, for some reason, all the boys like salad  : grab some lunchboxes and do mixed salads ie: pasta, rice, garden, caesar, greek - just throw it all into the lunchbox along with a fork.
(I know thats pushing the relationship - but some men do like salad lol)

Edit to add : The only reason a salad roll will go soggy is because of the tomato or beetroot in it.. so use my tip above and pat both down with a paper towel before adding to the roll/sandwhich and make sure neither is touching the bread - put sliced cheese and meat on the bread sides like kelbel said
