Hi
I have recently started my 6mth old daughter on solids. She has an intolernace to cows milk protein, is allergic to soy and HATES her Neocate formula (she only drinks what she has to when she is hungry/thirsty). I notice that lots of the recipe ideas for infants include milk or formula, but my daughter will NOT eat any foods if I have mixed them with her Neocate. So my health nurse said to use use cooled boiled water instead which works well - my daughter LOVES water.
So far she likes to eat rice cereal, pureed vegies (only tried her on pumpkin & corn, sweet potato & broccoli), and mashed banana and avocado combo. She doesn't seem to like any fruits (eg apple, pear, peach). I've tried and tried and tried but she refuses to eat these. Anyway, I'm getting short on ideas, especially since she can't have yoghurts, custard, ricotta cheese etc. Can anyone help me?
Also, does anyone know if 6 month old babies can have oats (e.g. if I pureed porridge) and sago or tapioca flour????
Thanks!

Hi there

My DS1 is also allergic to milk protein (and was allergic to soy but has since outgrown it). But unlike your daughter he LOVED his Neocate. I didnt ever use it in cooking though? It tastes pretty gross and I thought he might not like it when it was in food.....you can use rice milk in cooking. Or Oat milk once you haev introduced wheat and are sure she is okay with it. You can get both in the health food section of most majoy supermarkets.

However at 6 months of ages I wouldn't be too worried about needing to cook with milk. My DS2 is 7 months and has been on solids for a month and I am keeping him on a milk free diet (also egg and wheat free) till he is at least 9 months due to allergy risks. So far I am sticking with vegetable and fruit puree. He has rice cereal, sweet potato, white potato, pumpkin, carrot, brocolli, pear, apple, banana and a few other things.

Just keep going with the vegies for a while longer and then maybe try rice milk to make some fancy stuff.....and hope :fingerscrossed: she likes it! Oh and make sure you are really careful with introducing new foods, one new food every 3-5 days. Because she has already shown allergy symptoms you will have to watch closely for reactions.

As far as oats go, you could try them (you can buy baby oats like baby rice cereal) but I am staying away from wheat for a bit longer due to his brothers allergies......I still use rice cereal with fruit for brekkie and I even mix it with veiges for dinner sometimes (its ground rice isnt it? we sometimes have rice and vegies so its the same thing i guess).

Good luck, it will be easier as she gets older and eats a wider variety of food....
