I do not think I will, because the idea behind it is to have it BEFORE sex....Its kinda obvious that I have had sex (serious it is:rolleyes: ) so I do not think there would be much point?

I voted no, but only because I'm too old for the vaccine. If I was under 27 I'd be getting it.

You needed a 'undecided' option :)

That is me :D I haven't decided yet, will speak to my dr first.

I actually got a letter in the mail from my gp's surgery today saying they were offering it free for a limited time, and to make an appointment to come and get it....Is it actually going to be on medicare, or is it something that generally has to be paid for?

Anyhow, im undecided too. Parts of me say to get it, other parts say I dont know enough about it.

No but only because it would probably be useless as I have had sex and have most likely been exposed to HPV already.

Thats a big NO from me.

I dont think i will be getting it,i have already had cin 3(bad cells) and dont know if the cause was HPV there wouldnt be much point if it was.

I will prob talk to my doc about it and see if it would be worth it or not.

So yeah another undecided.

 No cause I'm to old but I would have it if it was available for older women.

Nope, even if I wasn't too old I wouldn't bother - my ex-husband already gave me HPV  and I've already had a CIN3 and have regular pap smears, so there's absolutely no point!

If I have a daughter one day I would like her to have it. Education about safe sex means nothing if you end up contracting HPV through a married monogamous relationship, as I did (how was I to know my ex already had it!)

As chelle said there is no point if I have already had Sex. So, No I will not be getting it.

The info i got at the drs said you should still have it even if you have had sex.

GARDASIL CAN PREVENT INFECTION WITH FOUR HPV TYPES. TWO TYPES CAUSE 7 OUT OF 10 CERVICAL CANCERS. THE OTHER TWO CAUSE 9 OUT OF 10 CASES OF GENITAL WARTS.

SHOULD I STILL BE VACCINATED IF I'VE HAD SEXUAL CONTACT?
Yes. You should still consider being vaccinated if you have ever had sexual contact with someone.
If you have had sexual contact, you may still benefit from the vaccine because it is unlikely you will have been infected with the two HPV types that can cause genital warts, which are covered by the vaccine.

I would highly recommend everyone at least talks to their GP about it and see what they say.

No. TBH, I dont want to have this vaccine, which hasn't really been out there in society for long and then be told 20 years down the track that the vaccine was a "dud" or "Has traces of blah blah, which is now a known link to cancer etc"

NO... I was considering it, but there just isn't enough info out there for me...

And if I haven't been infected by them by now, and they expect me to - they are saying that either me or my partner are not going to be faithful! :shame:

I feel that I will probably get my DD done though... I'm not liking the idea, but I've also heard that un-circ'd males who don't clean properly (not pointing the finger at anyone here) can pass the bacteria on - and seeing that no-one seems to be circ'ing their boys anymore, my daughter basically is going to have problems - can't have a chastity belt on her til she dies!
I am in no way saying that it's fact - it's something I've heard. I also NEED more research into it.

It hasn't been out there for long enough to prove there are no horrific long term side effects!

That's a fallacy, about intact males, Widget. Don't beleive that ****. If we're talking about anecdotal evidence, there's some that says Gardasil is causing infertility.

I haven't, and won't have it, and won't have my daughter or son vaccinated either

Don't recall saying I believed it... the_queen.

It's just something I heard. And yes, I heard about the infertility as well, but it hasn't really been around long enough to say that it causes infertility has it - hence the need for more research.

But if I heard that uncleaned "intact" males can pass on the bacteria that can cause cervical cancer - then that's what I heard. Be it true or not.

Hang on, why am I defending something that I heard?

If you're going to get cancer, you're going to get cancer - vaccinated or not.

I have had the first lot of injections. i would rather be safe than sorry, and it can help prevent some of the cancers that you can get.
if my dd was old enough i would encourage her to get as well.
it dosen't realy matter if you have had sex before.

Ok i really dont see why u wouldnt get it done

its only a little jab that can decrease the chance of u getting cervical cancer

and it still prevents cervical cancer if u've had sex! most of the people who recieve the needle have anyway

Im getting it after ive had bubba:)

ive read you cant get it done while your preg, but can you get it done while breast feeding? i would only be breast feeding for a little while so i can afford to wait, but so i know if its safe or not?

This vaccine can be given to women who are breastfeeding. It has not been shown to have any effect on a nursing infant, or to be any less effective in women who are breastfeeding.

Sorry to be ignorant or just dumb but what does HPV stand for?

Ange&Seth
28-09-2007, 17:36
HPV stands for Human Papilloma Virus - it's the precursor to genital/cervical warts which CAN (but not always) lead to CINI,II, and III and after that, cervical cancer.

The vaccine, as I understand it, doesn't protect you from cervical cancer  It DOES however protect you against ONE condition which MAY lead to cervical cancer.
