1. Can you add flavouring to formula? i.e chocolate for example?

2. Fruit smoothies - can they be made on formula? do you have a recipe?

3. With those yoghurt makers - does it have to be cows milk they are made from and do they come with recipe suggestions?

Sorry if these seem like stupid questions - but thought I would ask anyway:rolleyes:

I don't know why you would want to add flavouring to formula, but i guess it would be the same as adding flavouring to normal milk?

When i made smoothies for DD1 when she was on toddler formula, i just put the amount of made up formala i wanted and then added a couple of strawberries, banana pieces, etc, or a mix....she loved banana & strawberry together....and whizzed it with a hand blender until smooth. I also added a couple of spoons of plain yoghurt to it sometimes as well.....

Sorry, don't know anything about the yoghurt makers....:o

I wouldn't add flavouring to it, otherwise he'll never have it plain again!!!
Smoothies are fine. The fruit is good for them. Dont know about yogurt, dont have one....

I agree with the others I would never add any flavourings to formula (or cows milk)
For sure blend up some fruit and formula to make a smoothie.

I have an easiyo yogurt maker and to make the yogurt you mix water with a packet containing live cultures and milk solids. Here is a web site that explains how to make yogurt up yourself although I'm not sure how it would work with formula.

Is your bub unable to have cows milk products? If so you can buy soy yogurt in most shops.

Good luck

Hi there,

not too sure, I think it will depend on how old your bub is. but a good example, is there was an advert on tele for Karicare with the Aust. netball captain Liz Ellis - she added Strawberries and made a smoothie.

Hmmm. the smoothies and yoghurt were more of what I was afetr - I know I wrote chocolate flavourings - but I was sort of after like adding motherly fruit cubes etc .. Bub is unable to have dairy and soy appears to be a miss too - :( Goats milk we are having success with ! :)

Hi Lucy,

I noticed you said dairy and soy milk are out. Have you tried Lactose Free milk? My Husband can't drink dairy or soy but we have had success with Lactose Free. "Liddells" makes one. It's sold in those cartons on the shelf near the tea and coffee (not cold). They also have started selling fruit yoghurts (which is cold with the other yoghurts). Don't know if this helps but thought the Lactose Free Yoghurt might help.

However, I know you're not supposed to give babies "diet" milks or yoghurts - don't know if Lactose Free also falls under this or whether it falls under the Soy type headline.

Storm.

Rice and Almond Milks might be a good one too. Thse are usually in the health food isle. Not sure how old bub is, but when they are 'meant' to be drinking cows milk you can use the Rice/Oat/Almond Milks

Lactose free is a allergenic diet supplement ... not a diet product as such.

My baby girl couldn't tolerate dairy, soy, goats or lactose free for the first little while off her formula .... but my doc suggested giving her formula with 10mls soy in it ... then the following day increase to 20 mls etc until eventually her milk was completely soy .... worked a treat ... though I must admit I did water down the milk as well as adding it as it just seemed SOOOO thick.
