Hi, does anyone recommend ( or not recommend ) an OB/Gyn for the Sunshine Coast? This is our first bub and any help would be appreciated. I've also been looking at Nambour Selangor hospital for birth? Baby is due in September - still hard to believe though m/s is hard to ignore! :)

Selangor is Top Notch, great midwifery care and Fantastic Classes. Call them for a list of visiting OBs It wont be a big list and call to check their stats. ie Induction rate, ,episi, C/S rate, SCN admittions, Do they work with others (day off ect)

Thanks for your help Goosie & Eliza. I'll give Selangor a ring and see what they have to say and keep you posted. I'm overseas at the moment so wont have any opportunity to see hospital/meet ob until I get back which will be getting a bit late (14wks)! DH can help out tho so should be fine.
C'est la vie! :)

hello!! we lived in sunshine coast for two years, and we heard a lot of good things about dr. ted weaver - i think the rumour was that he delivered pat rafter's baby!! he's a very good surgeon and very cool even when there's trouble. he delivers at selangor too. good luck jenny

Ted Weaver was my cousins OB. Apparently he hasn't taken new OB patients for a long time. From what I heard he is the best on the Sunshine Coast. Even heard a rumour that he was retiring...... ????? if this is true. In regards to hospitals I would choose Selangor if I lived on the Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Coast Private's maternity ward is shared with the surgical ward so there's not only maternity patients there.

I just managed to get an appointment with Dr Weaver, if that is the case then boy am I lucky...
I am having a tour of the sunshine coast hospital on sunday and I had the one for Nambour on saturday and I have to say that I am greatly impressed with Nambour, but will still wait to make my decision until after the tour of the sunshine coast hospital.

Thanks. I've also managed to get an appointment for Dr Weaver so guess he's not retiring yet!
Would love to hear what you think of him when you go Eliza and I might see you in Selangor after all. ( DD Sep 9 )

Hi,
I am in same situation - I have looked at both hospitals and found Buderim to be very friendly and a little more relaxed although I think I will chose selengor due to the choice of OB's.
I was reccomended to James Orford, Ted Weaver or George Bogiatsis and were told they were all really great.
My baby is due in August and this is all new to me too, so if you fancy a chat i'm here.
Best of luck

we toured both hospitals too but decided on Nambour and Ted weaver, it took a little while to get there but that is our decision.
I like the security of Nambour better and the fact that you don't share the same area with the surgical patients.
PM anytime and I will give you my msn and we can chat live. :)

I think that's a really good decision to Selangor. That is where I'd go to if I was having a baby up there. I agree with you about not wanting to share a ward with surgical patients. The last thing you need is at night hearing an elderly person screaming in pain from a broken hip. The Midwives at Sunshine Coast Private are fantastic though, very friendly. And your husband/partner can stay there also, which is rare in a lot of hospitals. But on the whole, I think Selangor is a much nicer hospital. It must be pretty good if Pat Rafter and his wife have had both their children there, even while living in Sydney. Enjoy your experience.

Hi - I read this thread with great interest. Hi to all the Sunshine Coasters :)
We are due August 3 and my GP sent me to Dr George Bogiatzis and the Selangor has been highly recommended to me. I found it hard to make an appointment to see Dr Bogiatzis though - I booked in at 10 wks (his office was closed over the holidays) I don't get to see him until next week (17 wks!).

I'm glad all went well with Dr Weaver. I'm looking forward to getting back and meeting him in a couple of weeks time also.
I've got my NT on Tuesday here in Taipei so hope everything goes well - not sure about the way things work over here but looking forward to the chance to meet our little bub.
Can't wait to get home to a nice roast dinner! :smiliedance:

Hi Billy, i am new to the forum and also a soon to be new mum. I am having my baby at Nambour hospital because if you have any problems then Selangor send you there anyways. I am going privately and saving alot of money with not going to selangor. My ob is Dr James Orford in Nambour. He helped my sister through her second birth and he was great. He is a younger doctor and i feel so comfortable going with him. I know i am in great hands. I would recommend him to anyone! Oh yeah, I am due in October, with our first lil girl!
