Hi Lirael

Are you after hotels or a residential property?

Cheers
Justine

There's a heap of hotels and some selfcontained apartments in the city, they may be close to booked out though, as the Darwin Cup is on, and it's the Dry Season (peak tourist season)

Darwin City (Smith St, Mitchell St, Cavenagh St, The Esplanade),
Cullen Bay (Marina Blvd)
Fannie Bay/Parap is close to the City (about a 5 min drive to the City)

Sky City (the Casino) is just out of the CBD, but it's a bit exy.

Hope I'm helping, I can give you names of hotels/sc apartments if you want (?)

What dates are you looking at? thats what it depends on.
And do you want a kitchen in room, pool, ect and how many kids or babies you are taking. I have stayed in nearly every hotel in Darwin.
Try wotif.com and those sort of sites for info on some hotels.

it will be myself and possibly my 4 year old.

dont care about kitchen/pool all that.

have had VERY bad experiences with getting places through the net/sight unseen so I was wondering if people could recommend based on personal and fairly recent experience.

gee, even a nice caravan park with cabins would be good, as long as its close into the city KWIM? I dont drive.

I think the Darwin Cup (or the racing) ends around August. Not 100% sorry.

But I've stayed at

The Novotel 08 89410755
The Mediterranean 08 8981 7771 (They have spa suites too!)
The Saville 08 8943 4333
Holiday Inn (there are 2!) I think I stayed at the 'Esplanade' one - but they are both on the Esplanade - a bit silly really!
Holiday Inn Darwin 08 8980 0800 & reservation line for both 13 8388 (not sure if you can call the 13 line..)
The Crowne (I can't find the number - sorry!)

There is a nice little resort style place, I can't find it right now, but it's full of little bali huts which look really nice - I'd love to check that one out! Might be Palms City Resort..

Cullen Bay have a serviced apartment block, can't find the details for that either!

I'll be back when I've done some more digging!

Palms City Resort 08 8982 9200

Cullen Bay Holiday Apartments 08 8981 7999 or 1800 625 533 (www.cullenbayresorts.com.au (http://www.cullenbayresorts.com.au))

Crowne Plaza is the same reservation number as the Holiday Inn's but the direct line is 08 8982 0000.

Hope this helps!

I am not sure where to stay but steer clear of the Travelodge Mirambeena (sp) in the city on Cavenagh St. We stayed there when we were visiting once and it was dodgy. We booked and it said free room upgrade to deluxe geez I would hate to see what we would have got without the upgrade.

We arrived at 1:30am and had to wait about 45mins just to get the key with a 4 week old baby.

AND THEN on the last night someone came into our room I could tell it was a staff member at about 4am opened the door then shut it and took the key out of the power thing. I was fuming!!!
My husband went down to reception (once we woke up and realised it wasn't a dream) and they did even give a toss.

anyway I wouldn't stay there if i was you!

Sorry about the long story but they sent me a questionarre about a month ago and I advised them that word of mouth is what I was going to do!:shame:

Anymore q's just ask.

If you are not driving while you are there I would only stay in the city. Cullen bay is a pain really unless you have a car. It does not have anywhere to pick up any groceries or anything ect. Just lots of resurants.
I stayed in Saville Park Suits a couple of weeks ago. Got a good deal on their website for a one bed room apartment. t was great. Had a kitchen so i could wash bottle and make my 2 year old breakfast ect. A washing machine and dryer, lounge and bedroom with king size bed. It was on the esplande but had a back door which you could walk straight out to shops, main street, food, coles ect.
Quest apartments were nice when i stayed there but they were brand new at the time.
I only recoment the mirembeena if you stay in a town house. the rest is a bit so so. Palms city resort looks nice. They have cheap hotel rooms as well as the bungalos.
