View Full Version : Monistat treatment
Does anyone know if it's safe to use Monistat as a thrush treatment during pregnancy? My OB prescribed it but I've done my own research (mainly on the Internet) and couldn't find any comforting answers. Has anyone used it in past? Also, can a 1-day doze be used or is it too strong? Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.

My GP told me to only use the creams and natural remedies while I was pg just to be on the safe side as she was not totally sure which thrush treatments were okay to take in pill or pessary form while pg - and when I went to the chemist they had no idea either. I think most of the treatments err on the side of caution because it is usually a pessary.

Olivia,
I used Canesten 6 day treatment through out and it was fine it would work straight away.
My OB and Pharm recommended it

Hi,
I think as long as it is a cream and not a pessary it is fine. I also used cannestan pretty much the entire time for both my pregnancies. I think that the OB and chemist say its okay as long as you don't have to insert anything too far :o
Thanks for your replies, everyone. It's seems as though Canesten is a much safer product (chemist told me it's been on the market a lot longer and that's one of the reasons why they would always recommend first). I've decided to get a 2nd opinion to see if Monistat is the right treatment.

I would never buy Monistat again - pregnant or not.
I get a bad burning sensation from it, enough to reduce me to tears for hours after using it. I think it is the active ingredient, it doesn't seem to matter which of the various Monistat preparations I have tried.
A pharmacist I mentioned the problem to said it is not an uncommon reaction, and that Canestan has less potential to cause problems.
