Bowel moment is green (NAN HA GOLD)

Hi

I have recently changed formula from S26 gold to Nan HA gold, as I found that he was spweing too much from S26gold. Now that he's on Nan HA gold. The spweing isnt as much and he seem to like it too. Though his bowel moment is very green colour, and the smell is awlfully strong, and i also find that sometimes his bowel moment looks almost like breast milk?

Another thing is that, Im not sure if its the formula that not filling him up or what. Because when he ws on S26 gold, he would sleep through the night, with only one feed. Now that he on NAN he seems to wake up through the night, every 3-4 hrs for his next feed. Has anyone has the same problem with formula? Should I changed him again! to Heinz formula, as we are very tight on money now. it seem like it a good formula? If anyone can help, it will be great!
NOTE: Sometimes i wish i had try harder to keep him on the breast, so i wouldnt be so confused!

i have heard that the green poo is from the iron in the forumla and also Nan is much more like BM, its easier to digest so maybe thats why bub is waking up more becuase its going through his system faster than S26? ;)

Only last week I changed Bec's formula from Karicare HA to NAN HA GOLD too - noticed two things - 1) Her poos were the yucky green that you described and 2) Bec went troppo and loony on it - very very unsettled - crying more than usual which for her is noticable as she is normally a very good baby. I stopped it after four days (to give enough time to go through her system fully) and went back to Karicare and she is the same good baby as before change. Her green poo though is still there but not as bad - think NAN formula still going through her system.
Not changing fromula for anything now.

ive had this problem with tyler she has been on 4 different formula's she is now on infasoy,,, works great:D .... she was a very spew bub and still does spew but not as much,,, every different formula i changed her on her poo did change colour,,, from green to yellow to brown,,, she has been on infasoy now for around 6weeks or so and she sleeps through the nite....

Our bub was unsettled on Nan HA too, and wanted to be fed often, with very grisly behaviour in between feeds. We switched to S26 Gold and haven't looked back, no spewing, no crying and she now sleeps for up to 8 hours at night.
BTW she is now 14 weeks old and we made the switch at 9 weeks.
We do thicken our formula with Guarcol because of reflux, this may help with the spewing?

I used nan ha gold for a couple of bottles,same thing happened. I use S26 Gold now , no probs but is exy. I used Heinz with my previous two bubs but can't buy it where I live now.It was great and a very good price.Around $10 a tin , even cheaper when Target has Nusery Feeding sale :D I used to use the blue tin, the Gold version wasn't around back then.

Ive had bubs on Heinz since he came home from hospy with no dramas & its great as its a cheap formula.
The green poos is from the iron in the formula this is pretty normal ive had this with bubs & every so often he still has one depending on what he eats !
Be careful with changing bubs formula so often as it can do more harm then good & remember that it can take bubs up to 2wks to get used to a new formula & that you should always slowly introduce it one bottle at a time !

Well i supposed that the green poo is pretty normal. I thought maybe he might have stomach pain. Though i might give Heinz formula a go, to see if will sleep through the night. I wont get a whole tin, maybe though packets and try it out. Because it does smell better too than Nan HA gold.

Hi I have had the exact same experience and couldn't find any info on the internet regarding it (other than this site). Changed to NAN HA Gold from NAN 1 due to an out of stock at the local supermarket and, besides, the Gold was what the hospital had fed her. We had the same results. Green, vile smelling poo and a baby that wakes every morning shrieking for food. Also noticed she wasn't eating as much (which I guess caused the shrieking!). Maternal Child Nurse said it's to do with the fish oil in the formula 1. Bubs doesn't like the taste and 2. effect of fish oil is to make green smelly poo. So checked out the ingredients between the two formulas, Gold's only addition was AAs and DHAs/fatty acids. Then found an article which says derivative of fatty acids for infant formulas is usually fish! Hey presto. So we have now dispensed with the fishy formula in favour of NAN 1 and have much happier baby.

I have just put my DS on NAN HA Gold and his poos are green too. They are a bit smelly but dont all poos smell anyway (except for breastfed babies).

He is feeding every 2-3 hours and only having 100mls at a time but I thought this was because he was breastfed before so he was constantly on my boob. Do you think it is the formula?

I guess it depends how old bubs is and if you're meeting the daily quota allowances (guide on the tin is usually pretty good). If yours is OK on it then I wouldn't change it. Yes poo is a bit more smelly on formula but the Gold was particularly stinky for us and sticky too. You'll soon see if bubs is getting enough anyway at the regular weigh ins.

Hi All

DS has been on NAN Gold since he was 3 months. He is now 6 months. Yes he gets the smellys poo, and yes sometimes they can be green, but doesn't most poo stink :laughing:.

We have had no issues with the formula. DS sleeps through the night on it, and acutally sleeps better when we give him a FF before bed instead of a BF. Oh should probaly mention the DS is both FF and BF, about 1/2 and 1/2. We are looking at moving to full FF int he next week or so due to lack of supply.

We put DS on the Nan Gold because he was 100% BF'd at the time, and it was what was recommed by hospital and CHN.

i gave DS nan HA gold, the lady at the pharmacy told me it was the best formula, something about it being the closest formula to breast milk :confused: :confused:

I gave DS Nan HA from about 2 weeks old as I had major issues with BF. This was on the recommendation of a very trusty pharmacist, the hospital and my CHN who all said that it was the closet formula to breast milk you can get!.

- He slept through the night from 8 weeks old

- Yes his poos were green and on the smelly side - but hey what poo isn't! (the smell of the poo really shouldn't matter as to what formula you feed them IMHO)

- I had no problems what so ever with constipation! (which is also quite a common problem with other formulas....)

Just gotta remember that every baby is different and like someone else said you have to try things for a couple of weeks (unless there are serious adverse reactions!) before ruling that particular one.

My DS is now 12months old and is still thrieving! :thumbsup:

Hi, my seven week old baby was on S26 to start with but he used to get really bad wind and constipation so the nurse suggested the NAN HA as it is easier to digest. I do find that the poos are green and more smelly but that's fine. The thing I don't like is that because it's easy to digest it goes right through him like water and he is hungry every hour to hour and a half. Specially the mornings. And since it's $15 a tin I'm spending a lot. don't know what to do.
More experiences please.

I know with breastmilk you can add Farex to thicken it to make bub not as hungry, and go longer between feeds. You could try this, but I would check with CHN or GP first.

i have found that S26 AR has worked absolute ownders with my girl!

I first had her on Nan HA which is what i had DS on, but that made her constitapated..so we gave her Nan HA Gold the easier to digest one i guess but that made her reflux!! *Weird i know* and then i was told to try thickening it but then a good friend suggested i try S 26 AR and i tell youw hat it has been great :smiliedance:
