A good one for all ages :D

I left out the peg basket for the kids this morning and before I knew it, Ronan had spent about an hour on the floor arranging different 'trees'. Some with snow, some apparently waving in the wind, some with different coloured branches and some with the colours all mixed up.... he loved it!!

This is what I mean, though it's not a very good example (a bit small- Ariene had just taken away a few 'branches')

If you have a toddler like mine that loves to create things, then I thought I'd suggest this as a great activity for a day like today when one freezes their toes off trying to do anything outside...

Aww that's so cute Em. What a creative little man he is. I agree, pegs are great aren't they! Keeps the littlies busy when I'm folding washing

My kids used to love pegs especially when they were little, but DD once pegged one onto her tongue and screamed the house down. Poor thing. Great tree by the way.

lol...when ds was about 10 months he got one stuck on his little toe and was crying and crying....it took me a while to work out what the problem was.:o

Thats a great tree! Did he think of it by himself....thats pretty clever! I'll show Coop that tomorrow and see how we go.

Matilda loves pegs! Has forever! Cheapest toy around next to a cardboard box!

It got so bad I had to buy her, her own ones cause the ones for outside kept going missing!

Yes, on his own Trish, he does them over and over... the pegs were sitting there, he clipped a few together and then shouted "Making a TREE!!" and off to work he went. Over and over... many trees have been and gone on our kitchen floor today!!

He loves talking about the weather and the trees have been 'snow trees' using the white pegs on the tips, waving in the wind trees, trees in the sun etc. It is tooo funny!!

ETA: I went shopping this afternoon and while hesitating at the bin liners, Ronan grabs a bag of pegs wanting to get them. How bad do I feel. :( I put them back....

Tomorrow I will duck out to get a heap of 'special tree pegs' just for Ronan and I encourage others to try them out as a toy and get some just for the kids next time you shop! Did I mention that I also like the cheap factor? :p

Hey it's not just toddlers ..... my DD aged 9 pulls the peg basket off the line to play with them outside.

Thats awesome Em!!

Unfortunately Noah likes to pull my pegs apart and try to put them back together, but he can't so I end up with a very dangerous spring that Lachlan will try and eat if he finds it  (YAY he's back!!)

So pegs are too dangerous in this house

Bummer!! :banghead: Everything else seems to be dangerous here, thank goodness Ronan prefers to play with the pegs intact! And I try to get them out only when Ariene's alseep, mainly because Ronan gets fed up with her ripping his peg trees apart...

Those springy bits would indeed be dangerous, come to think of it

Go for the moulded plastic pegs. Thats what Matilda plays with. Its basically one piece of plastic with a peg gap on each end. We get them from woolies. They are like highlighter colours

Sounds great
But one must be able to make trees from them! And drag them around on the floor joined up to make a big snake, that's also a priority, lol.

These things can clip onto anything!! Believe me!! I peg them around the house to keep matilda amused constantly! I leave a trail! And snakes of course can be done too!! Long brightly coloured snakes!! These ones wont hide in the bush!

The tree might be a problem though . .though some creativity . .which is obviously blooming! and Im sure he could figure something out!

It sounds like a lot of fun has been had with those pegs lol

Here is another idea that l have used with my dd when she was about 2.

all you need is a clean empty plastic juice or cordial bottle with a wide neck.

Fill it with a couple of handfuls of pegs screw the lid on loosely.

In the beginning it is a rattle till they realise they can shake the pegs out.

The real fun starts when they start posting the pegs into the bottle.

My dd spent ages doing this and its really good for fine motor and eye hand co-ordination.

Just thought this might be of interest
