I was wondering how all the mummies with young bubbies let them cry before attempting to help settle them to sleep??

DS (3months) is an excellent sleeper during the day, but not always of a night and often cries when put to bed. Most of the time i go in there after 30seconds or so. But sometimes during the day - he is left to cry for a few minutes as i might be changing DD's nappy or on the loo myself. Often by the time i get to him after a minute or 2 he has stopped crying and is back alseep again. IMO he is too young to do control crying/comforting, but am unsure as to how long is OK to leave him. I mean when i am changing DD there is no choice, i can't leave her with an open nappy & poo smeared all over her, but i feel bad just leaving him for a few minutes when i am just doing the washing or something else that can wait.

How long do you leave your baby to cry??

It depends on why she is crying, if its just because she is overtired and she is already in bed ready for sleep I go in after 5 to 10 minutes then I pick her up, give her a cuddle and put her down, but if its because she is hungry or hurt or whatever then I usually attend to her straight away but sometimes its harder coz I might be busy with Hayley.

i leave ds for 5 minutes then lean over the cot make sure he has his dummy stroke his nose (he loves it) then sing to him or put his monitor music on it usually works first time around if i have t go in more then twice ill get him offer him boob or burp him jusincase of wind

if it's during the day, and i'm caught short running to the loo, in the shower or getting dressed i have to let her cry (obviously), but will pick her up as soon as i can.

at night, i wait for a minute or two to see if she puts herself back to sleep (which she often does). if she doesn't i pick her up and soothe her back to sleep... maybe. :P

I'm obviously the meanest mummy of all time, at night when we put him down, he's had a feed, change, burp, hugs and kisses from all of us and if he cries, we leave him.

He has cried on and off for 1/2 hour before falling asleep. I admit we didn't leave it as long with our first

Depends.... if I am doing something like putting washing on etc, I will let her cry but once she reaches a point where her voice cleary shows she is getting past just crying I get her. I don't like hearing my baby crying as if she is being hurt. :gloomy:

I've never left mine to cry. As soon as they do I go and comfort them. It is there only way of saying SOMETHINGS NOT RIGHT...so why would I ignore it?

I have left Skye to cry for about 20 minutes a few times but thats only after we have tried 110 other things to get her to sleep, we know she is just tired and if we get her up and rock her or whatever she won't sleep (hope that makes sense)

One time when Hayley was 4 months I left her cry for an hour coz I had had enough :o from that night on she slept through.

Depends on the crying. If it is full on sobbing then I go in straight away. If it is just a single cry or two then I wait a 30sec/1min to see what follows. I still check on him after every sound - normally he is asleep and crying in his sleep so I don't need to do anything other then pat his tushy for a second to comfort him. If not then it is straight onto the boob for comfort.
