I was cooking dinner and pulled the chops out of the oven and oil splattered all over my 4 fingers then i dropped it but grabbed it out of stupidity (more so reflexes) now i have 4 very large blisters on my fingers tips and also the top of my fingers from my knuckle to my finger nails :crying:
It hurts like hell! I did it about 45 minutes ago and ran them under water now i have a bag of peas wrapped in a tea towel, the blisters are quiet big and grr its burning so bad!
As we have just moved all i can find is bandaids bepanthenon cream and some amcal zinc cream....can i use this on them when its been cooled enough? Anything else i can use that i would have in my pantry?
Help!! Its soooo sore and hurts like hell even the peas feel like they are burning, i cant find my box of first aid goodies so in a bit of a rutt here :(

I dunno if you can use bepanthen on it or not... I'd say any products which say that can be used on burns would be okay.
DP's an apprentice chef so ALWAYS burning himself (on oil, or fire, on anything pretty much...lol), and he just leaves them. They go away fairly quickly on their own...
I feel for you though... I hate getting spattered with oil!

THankyou :) maybe if i just keep it cold it will stop cooking i will look like a freak with these bubbles on my fingers LOL
Ice/cold running water is the best thing for burns.
Although, if they are bigger than a 20c piece, then you really need medical attention.

Thanks roxy they are in between a 5 and a 10 cents size wise so will just keep them cool :)
if the ice feels like it's burning maybe it's a bit too cold to have on the burns. Try getting some cold water in a bowl and put your fingers in there for a while.
I usually put pawpaw ointment on burns like that, seems to help them heal really fast.
I too would keep a cold compress on them until the burning ceases. (The burning is actually the burning through the layers of skin). Then I'd do the same as cwsmum and use some pawpaw ointment to help it heal - it's cheap and you can't miss it in the shops - it comes in a red container.
Hope you heal soon :hugs:

Grr i dont have any paw paw well i do but we only moved in a week ago and i cant find the damn box its in :( its still quiet hot though so still need to keep it cool i think before i put anything on it :(
I wouldn't recommend putting ice on a burn.. as you will probably burn it more.
Just some room temp water.. do you have any Savlon? or aloe vera, or any aloe plants? if so they are good for burns.

Aloe Vera works well on burns.
The burning should start to ease soon :hugs: I think last time I burnt myself with oil it took about 1.5hrs before it stopped burning. I tried putting frozen peas on it but found that cool water worked better coz the peas were too cold and made the burning feeling worse.
Just use the bepanthen on it tonight then go buy a tube of pawpaw ointment tomorrow, that stuff really works fast
Hope your fingers stop hurting soon :hugs:

cant get to the shops as everything is shut here pretty early so dont really have anything but bepantenon and nappy rash cream just have a cold face washer now sitting on it but its lookin a little ikky now :(
i have vaseline LOL just found some in bathroom and some moisteriser but thats it grr i really need to get unpacked properly
Just did a bit of reading and looks like cold water is much better and it will take a while for the burning to go away (so sit back in front of the telly & eat tim tams with your good hand for a while! :D)
Bepanthen web site says that after you apply the cream to apply a non-stick dressing if needed to protect the area, and to continue to reapply Bepanthen to provide a moist healing environment.
what do you mean it's looking ikky?

MIght use the bepanthonon umm when i say ikky its like really red and my fingers look grey i think its the skin thats been burnt but hasnt actually risen to a blister but they have circulation i can see that doing the pinch test (screaming when i do) just getting all these tiny tiny little blisters around the larger ones
thinking if there is an all night chemist here, i doubt it
Do you have a local hospital near by and someone who can watch the kids? It is sounding very icky, and if they were my fingers, I'd go and get them checked out.
I don't know what everyone else has said, but I work in Home Ec at a school and come across burns a bit. The best and only thing you can do is run your burn under cold water until it stops burning. The 2 worst things you can do is put something frozen on or creams as these just keep burning it more.
I once poured hot water from the kettle directly onto my hand trying to fill a hot water bottle in the middle of the night and had to stand there for about 45mins under cold water (and it was a freezing night!) but it is the ONLY thing that stops the burning getting worse.
Hope that helps.

There is one i am thinking i might head up there as they look rather nasty and i have had belly pains ever since :( maybe its just the shock factor or something
Will let you know if they cut my hand off LOL
:hugs: you poor thing :hugs:
It definatly sounds like they need to be checked out. How big are the burns now?
Might be a good idea...especially if you aren't feeling right in the tum either.
Even if they do nothing else, they will dress them for you so that you are a bit more comfortable.
Let us know how you go! :hugs:

I just rang the maternity ward i did it the sneaky way so i dont have to wait all night they said to come up and they would check me over and tend to my fingers too how nice :) they dont want me out all night waiting in emergency so hopefully it wont take too long
That's using your noggin!
Oh good, that makes things a bit easier for you :)
Hope you haven't done too much damage to your fingers, and everything is ok with bubba too (tho I'm sure you are worrying about nothing there, it's just the stress/shock from the burn).
Good luck :hugs: lets us know how you go. I'm off to bed in a few mins but will check back tomorrow to see how you went.

Spent 5 hours there :( monitoring bubs as heart rate was a little eratic she did tell me i was lucky i come in all 4 of my fingers are now one big blister, all the way around so have to go and get them dressed everyday....didnt think it was that bad but obviously did a pretty good job there.
Top it all off now i have to have steroids :( they think that this bubs might want to come early apparently, they did an internal to check things and i am 3cms dialated so off to ob tommorow and have been ordered to sit on my butt and not do anything after much pursuation of letting them let me come home told them i would behave.
THanks for everyones advice now, off to post in the pregnancy section to see if anyone else is dialated this early...dont want the scare factor again like i had with dd
Good Luck with it all punkbaby! I hope your bubs doesn't come too early....eeeek! You tell him/her to stay put! Hope your fingers get better.
xx Mish
Gosh! Glad that you went up there then!
Hope that bubs hangs in there, and your fingers heal quickly...
