View Full Version : How big is your house?
And how many kids do you have?
I am wondering how crazy I am thinking that we want to have 5-6 kids in this house. Hubby wants to buy the house we are renting but its not big. Its very modest and only 3 bedrooms. If we did buy it I guess we could/ would build on.
I am very lucky to have a DH who loves to build. We were able to save heaps of money by going owner builder on our house, with hubby doing alot of the work or organising contractors to do what he couldn't.
So now we have a 5 bedroom house with 2 bathrooms and also a play room off the main living area with a gate I can remove when I need to.
Then he built another room in our garage with an ensuite for ou oldest so now every one has their own rooms. We have 5 kids by the way.

I have 4 kids with 4 bedrooms, I dont think a big house is really important, and sometimes houses are too big, and the family is totally seregated. I have a friend with 6 in a 3 Bedroom house, she has 3dd and 3ds so there is 3 in each room, and it works well, they are a happy family in a small house, which is better than an unhappy family in a big house.

We have five kidlets in a three bedroom house. The boy's (3) room is large but the girls (2) room is very small only room for one single bed and cot and that it about it. As it is we need two bath rooms as we always seem to have a line up for the loo. And only four of us use it now. So in the next couple of years we will need to move which is fine with me as we would love to have a bit of land for the kidlets play around on. I would love to build a new house but one that looks old IYKWIN.

In-Laws had 9 kids (I married one so now they got 8 at home) & have a 4 bedroom house. Though for awhile they had the youngest 4 in a room together. Twins & then 2 more kids 2yrs apart.. (ie 2yo, 4yo & twin 6yo's) so that they had a 'playroom'.
Friends had a TWO bedroom house with 9 kids. They've recently got their home extended & added one more to their number.

We have 3 kids ATM, 4br house, with rumpus and internal garage that we've converted to mum and dad's retreat. Next bub can share with Nat for a bit, and then when we need more rooms we will convert downstairs or extend upstairs.
My mum was one of 7, 6 girls and 1 boy, in a 3br house... needless to say, in that day my uncle had his own room, and the youngest two girls were born when the oldest 2 had already left home!

4 kids, teeny tiny 3 bedroom house (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/angel_kisses9798/P3260234a.jpg).
Not much space at all in Brooke and Troys room (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/angel_kisses9798/P7080085.jpg).
A little bit in Jacob and Matthews room (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v116/angel_kisses9798/P7080086.jpg).....but none at all when the trundle bed is pulled out. And I am hoping to have all 3 boys in here in about 4mths when I get Troy out of the cot.
Our living room is about the same size as the 2 bedrooms put together..........not much fun when all 6 of us are in there at once, or when the inlaws come and visit and there are 9 people talking at once.

We have a 3 bedroom house with a sunroom (long and skinny) that we use as another bedroom. Poor Angus,it's not insulated so is very cold in there and hot come summer, but can't afford to change that just yet.
We have 2 older girls sharing and 2 youngest sharing. Works okay, but only one loo inside house so that is a bit of a pain when we all need to go...
we have me and Dh and 4 kids in a 4 br 2 bathroom home...but the main br has a nursery in it..which is the size of a small bedroom for the baby! so technically 5 br's! and we have a big study as well. right now all the kids have thier own rooms but in september we are moving samantha into Alyssas room and turning samanthas room into a room for aidan and when bub is born in december he will have the nursery! Our house is plenty big and I wouldnt want a house any bigger or smaller its just right for our family!
Thanks for the replies. And for the pics Jeanette. :)
Our house is very small. We had the house valued today at $200, 000. This is more for the land as the house is falling apart. Its a big block of land so I imagine if we could afford it we could build at the back. It already has a permit for a 2 storey.
Its exciting yet so scary. I think I would have to work and put off ttc for a while. Hubby doesn't want me to work though (cept from home as I am now)
 This is argh scary!
We are a family of 4 kids and 2 adults living in a 3 b'room house with 1 toilet, 1 shower/bath (tiny square tub) and we do ok except toilet rush hour in the mornings  The 2 boys share a room and the 2 girls share the other room...we have built-in's which helps heaps and we also have a dbl garage that's the kids "rumpus room" . It's fine...but when the 2 older kids are teens, I'd like to move to a bigger place with definatley 2 bathrooms and 2 toilets and some more b/rooms!!!
