Anyone got any good tips for cooking a perfect roast pork with crackling? I know how long to cook it for (from the edmonds cookbook) but what temp? We have a crappy non fan forced oven. I also want to be able to make the crackling so crunchy too, i usually put salt and lemon juice and olive oil on the top.
We used to have a fan forced oven in our old house, and it was so much better for cooking stuff in.
Any other tips would be great :D

hey there, i acctually was goignt o make a roast pork for dinner tonight, but my partner decided on silverside instead. ne way, my best tip for roast pork, pre heat your oven, so its really hot. on about 240 celcius. rub a lot of salt into the scorred skin, with about a tablespoon or so of oil, drizzled in as well. and rub it all on, getting your fingers into the cracks, making sure it all gets in there nice and deep.
throw it in the oven for about 20-25 mins, and then turn the oven down, and cook on about 190 until cooked.
i hope that i have helped with that. Good luck..

I always think that you cannot cook a leg of pork too long...the longer the better, the meat ends up just falling off the bone.
I'll usually put mine on at lunchtime (really high at first and then turn it down to around 180) and leave it for 5-6 hours.
Also, with the crackling, you can take it off at the end and then put in under the grill for a while (put a tray underneath though for the fat to drip into) and that always gives a nice crunchy texture.

Huh? That's insanity!
I remember going to my ex's grandparents for lunch one day and his Nan was cooking roast pork. She took the crackling off and went out the back and threw it to the dog!!!!!
I was about an inch away from fighting the dog for it. She said, "you can't eat that disgusting stuff, it's only fit for dogs"
