 Hi i have just been given the consent form
it asks how many embryo 1 or 2 and how many days 2-3 or 4-5 transfer
i don't really want twins, but if they put in 2 does that mean both will either take or both will not
also am i better waiting 4-5 days for transfer
will that make them stronger?
not sure what to do
I just had a 2 embryo, 5 day transfer.
I've got one bun a-cooking RIGHT NOW!
The lab tech told us that the embryo's they would have put back at day 2 WEREN'T the ones that survived through to day 5!
Go for two embryos. that way at least one might take.
And Good Luck!
I'm suprised they are leaving it up to you. Usually the doctor makes those decisions based on your case.
If you have two put back you must be prepared for twins. It might not happen, but it might, so you need to be *really* sure that twins is ok with you and your family.
going to blastocyst is a way of checking viability for that little bit longer. But it's not guaranteed and may not be the best thing for your embies (which is why it's usually the doctors decision).
Having said all that, for this current pregnancy, I had two put back, but one ended up miscarrying at 10 weeks. So, while I still have a healthy baby, I had to go through that loss as well.
IVF is a gamble.. but not about blame.. best of luck and I hope things work out well for you.

I had 2 put back at day 2.. the others did not survive to day 3. I am now pregnant with 1. I'm a firm believer that they are better of in you than in a dish.. but thats just my personal opinion and experience....
but if you are unsure about wanting twins, only go for one because there is still a chance of one embryo splitting anyway.. and you could end up with 3 :D

Hi there canibeamum, the forms can be confusing. Don't get too concerned about the technicalities at this point. The things you need to start thinking about are, do you want twins? the changes that will need to happen if you were to have twins. Do you have lots of good practical support? Financial. We talked about all the possibilities that might happen if we were to transfer 2 embryos. We needed a new car, don't have a lot of family support, already have a child etc. I spoke to my ob at length about the risks involved with a twin pregnancy at he advised us against it. It will also increase your pregnancy risk, increase the risk of preterm labour, need of NICU and Special care nurseries. It also increases the risk of infant mortality. Sorry to be grim but I had a very high risk pregnancy and don't wish that on anyone.
I had 4 embryos that fertilised and were good to use. I contemplated putting back 2 and I'm glad that I didn't. Our embryo split into 2 creating identical twins.
My advice is put back 1 embryo as the advances in technology actually mean that there is an equally good chance of conceiving with only 1 put back.
The risks of putting back more than 1 mean you could end up with 1, 2, 3 or even 4 depending on if any splitting happens or you still may end up with none.
Please pm me and I'd be more than happy to go into more details.
Good luck.

Hi Canibeamum
I know how you feel, after my doctor and the nurses's explained everything to me i still don't know if i should transfer 1 or 2. Multiple births doesn't bother me having a baby is a blessing having more than one for me would be a dream come true. There is alot of support these days for women who have multiple births. My doctor only suggested to transfer 1 because of my age and because i have fallen pregnant naturally in the past (i had a MC and EP) i still don't know what to do i am so scared of going through another MC, my doctor told me all about the risks involved with transferring more than one especially MC but there are no guarantees with transferring just one. As jaderocks said IVF is a gamble.
I have to give the nurse my decision when i go for my BT and U/S and i still don't know what to do!

thanks everyone for your feedback
i think i will wait & see what the doctors advise
they told me that in the end it's my decison
after all i have to accept the outcome I just wanted as much info as possible.
there are no guarantees, they say that life never gives you anything you can't handle
so i may be blessed with 1, 2 or 3
Or if not successfull this time, the courage to do it again
congrats to everyone, i hope you all have a great pregnancy and lots of healthy kids
and Kristyd good luck with your ivf journey
it is so scary, there are so any obstacles to overcome

After 8 cycles of day 2-3 embryos and no success, the clinic were just starting to do day 5 transfers. We were told the success rate is higher but it took all our 6 remaining frozen embryos to get one good looking day 5 blastocyct.... and it was the one that they earlier thought was sub standard.
Whalla, several days later I was peeing on sticks like a mad dog! Everytime I got a positive!
Go the day 5 if you can, and good luck!:smiliedance: :bfn:
