View Full Version : car seat
This may seem stupid - but anyway. We are having our car repaired and only have one car seat-. The repairer does not know how long the repairs will take - could be a day could be a few :(
My husband is reluctant to take carseat out of car and put into other car incase we stuff it up , cant get it back in etc etc...... .what do others do in this situation??
Afetr reading the thread on taxi troubles - I dont think thats an option:eek:
Hi Lucy
I would swap the seats over, you'll only learn by doing it. If you really screw up, you can phone a friend or at the worst the RACQ (or equivalent). It's better than you all being stuck at home with no car (or worse needing to go somewhere, like a doctor in an emergency).
I wouldn't rely on taxis either, I think they only have to provide the fixings in every cab, not every cab carries a carseat. You may well not be able to get one when you want.
Cheers
Hi. As far as I know the ambulance will fit your car seat for free. (Well that is what hubby told me and he had our second one installed by them)
Hope this helps. Just ring your local ambulance and find out.
Hey there, we have two cars but had decided to just have a car seat in my car and hubby's work car would be used as just the work car. Who ever has the baby has the good car(with baby seat) he works 2 days then 2 nights and has four off. Anyway one of his work mates had his wifes car as his was getting fixed and hers had the only car seat in it,at 3am last week he was called home to take the baby to the hospital as he was sick, given that they dont really live close to the hospital what would have taken her 15 minutes max to get him to the hospital took nearly 45. I know if it is an emergency you can call an ambulance but in my opinion a lot more convenient to have the means there to get them urgent medical attention if need be. So hubby came home and told me,then the next day told me we were going car seat shopping for a seat for the other car...just in case. He'd rather have it there and not have to use it than be in a situation like that.
On the other note does anybody know if the NSW Ambulance will fit car seats for free? we have had a play with ours and done it to the instuction booklet but it would be good to get it checked.
I have to admit that we move our seat between cars, between positions in the car with monotonous regularity and don't worry about having it checked each time. I have had my own fitting checked before and they have been happy with it so I just continue on. It isn't rocket science - you thread the belt through and attach the hook to the anchor point - have faith in your own ability - you will be fine!
I am flying to Canberra next week and think I will take my two seats with me to use in the taxi on the way to and from the airport at each end - I am quite comfortable fitting them into taxis and would prefer the girls to be safe while travelling.

Hi. As far as I know the ambulance will fit your car seat for free.
I have heard that too!
We got our car windows tinted not long after DS was born and they removed the capusle (that was fitted by the ambulance) - I freaked!
But I realised it is really easy to put them back in - (once I had calmed down and also couldn't get another booking at the ambulance for a whole week! )
You'll be ok too! :)
I would take the car seat out.. they are really easy to fit.. well so DH tells me! He fitted ours and only took him 5 mins... but he has been trained!
We just bought another carseat on wednesday so we can have one in each.. just saves time!

while looking after my godson, we used to change the carseats between our cars all the time... I didnt find it very difficult at all - once you learn...
Have a fiddle - and look at all the stages before you take it out...
Another handy hint for moving the seat,or moving anything that you are unsure if you'll remember to do it the same way. If you have a digital camera take photos of all possible angles then when fitting it you can look at the camera as a reference then delete photos when done!! Its amazing how much easier it makes it.
