View Full Version : Bouncy castles at a 2nd birthday????
I'm in the process of organising things for my DS's 2nd birthday. I was all set to have a bouncy castle until late last night when I thought the kids might be a little young for it. (They range from 10months to 2 years)
So my question to you, would you have a bouncy castle at a 2nd birthday???
I am open to other suggestions for the party, I have absolutely no clue when it comes to stuff like this :o

If there were going to be a lot of older kids present then I'd consider it... as they are a lot younger I wouldn't. They might enjoy it but as my DS said when I asked him what he wanted for his 3rd birthday "party" he was happy with balloons and a cake. Oh and party hats.
Save the bigger things for when he gets older... It makes for a much simpler day in the mean time.
My DS started to love jumping castles at about 26 months. We are going to a 3yr olds bday on sunday and she is having one and DS is most excited (roll eyes :D )
I've been to a few parties with jumping castles and it does seem to be the 2yrs plus who stay in them and enjoy being flung around by the older ones.
No other suggestions, sorry!

IMO it is too young.. Although kids like mine and yours head straight for the jumping castle at the play-center, there are other things that may be more fun for all the toddlers at the party. I'm hopeless when it comes to organising and running paties, but things like pavement chalk, party hats/wigs etc and setting up your normal toys is probably all that's needed
Thanks for the replies girls, i'm thinking about using the money I would've spent on the castle and have it at a play cafe. That way I don't have the stress of having it at my house and they can clean the mess up after :devil6:

That is a good idea! the kids can play in a safe environment and the parents won't be as stressed by it.

That's a fantastic idea! Then whoever wants can jump on the castles and whoever doesn't can do their own thing. Especially at their age.

i want one for DS 2nd birthday this yr but then again if he still cant jump  then there is no point{he doesnt know how to jump lifting both legs up.
other idea's maybe
a ball pit? buy a few packs of the coloured balls and just a cheap small swimming pool if u look now they should be cheaper due to it being winter.
or u can hire them.

sorry i didnt read all the posts so my appolagies if this has been suggested.
if there is older kids coming i think a jumping castle isnt the best idea.. maybe the animal farm to come out with the baby animals? i know kids love them.

i say wait till they can remember having it, i had a jumping castle at my 8th birthday party and i loved it and could enjoy it cause i was old enough to remember it. imo i think its better to wait.
We are having a bouncy castle at Miss J's 2nd birthday. It's for children up to 8 yrs, so not too big, but she loves the bouncy castles at play centers etc, so I thought, why not?

When DD was 11 months she went to a second birthday party whee they had a jumping castle... All the kids there loved it!!! They ranged in ages from 11 months to 6 years... They all had a ball, but it really does depend on what the children like... I think that the playcentre idea is great!!!
Thanks everyone for their replies, we are definitely going the play cafe way.
The thought of having it at home overwhelms me (pathetic i know) so for my stress levels we are having somewhere where I don't have to do much :o
Caz, I was going to suggest the play centre idea, as they often have bouncy castles plus lots of other play options for kids of various ages, plus there is the bonuse of having food provided and no stress/clean up for mum  Given that you can spend the same amount and have it at home, I think the play centre is the way to go, DD went to a 2yo b'day in Feb at a playcentre and had a ball!!
