So I left my little cherub, Maia, in her cloth nappies for too long yesterday and she has her first nappy rash. I have investigated a previous thread and am going to purchase some silk liners from Nurture Nappies.

I have noticed that they aslo sell a bottom balm by Nature's Child. It seems to have all of the most fantastic ingredients. Has anyone tried this balm? I am wondering whether to purchase some.

On the other extreme, what are people's opinions on "Sudocrem", with some not so fantastic ingredients (I'm sure), but it does have the zinc oxide in it for quick healing.

Just curious...Amber:detective:

Hi Amber

Sorry I havent used the bottom balm with Oli. But in our first week of cloth Oli got a nappy rash, which went away very quicky with some J&J anti rash powder- apparently regular cornflour from the cupboard works well too...

Maybe you can try this while you wait for your delivery from Nurture Nappies! It might clear up before your package even arrives.

Be careful though when using creams/balms on your nappies as they can affect the absorbancy, best to use some biodegradeable liners that you can flush away at each change.

Don't use sudocream with your MCN, it will ruin them. Plus its not really a very good cream.

Try the curash zinc powder, as this will wash right out of your nappies, and you don't need a liner with them.

If you find you need a zinc cream make sure it's with a fleece liner that you can throw away later, but you might find that the wee won't absorb through it and you'll end up with leaking pants.

I've heard paw paw cream works well and will wash out of your nappies.

But I've found that a rash usually clears up by itself with cloth nappies, or if it's bad then the curash zinc powder works a treat

I have hear good things about the pawpaw too but not the Lucas pawpaw ointment, but the Simmons Pawpaw salve, which is not petroleum based, so breathes better on the skin (I think that is what they said?!?) You can get the Simmons onlune and in some health shops.

(having said that I ALWAYS use the Lucas pawpaw on my lips and I love it!

Yep, you're right. Simmons pawpaw salve is vegetable oil based, totally different consistancy to the Lucas pawpaw cream. Lucas', being petroleum based, just blocks the skin and you might as well just use vaseline!
I get mine from Healthy Habitat (actually, they're called Todae now) who are in Glebe, Sydney, but they do have an online store. There are a few other sites that sell it aswell.

On the otherhand, plain ol' cornflour can be one of the most effective and cheapest ways of healing rashes.

btw, I love you're daughter's name ;) Is it pronounced My-a or May-a? Our dd2's is pronounced My-a:)

Thanks gals! I have some of that paw paw ointment, so at least I know now that it is ok with the MCNs. I did wonder that. Oh, and it is the best for my lips too!

Also, after Cherry recommended the corn flour this morn, I put that on Maia's bottom immediately and already its looking much better. Will throw out the sudocrem sample that I got from the hospital show bag...no good (hate to think what mixture of chemicals are in that).

.... on our way to a happier bottom :fingerscrossed: Thanks.
