Just wondering how early you can detect the sex of the baby? Is the earliest the 18 week ultrasound? or could the 12 week scan detect it?

apparently a really good sonographer can have an educated guess but it wont be very accurate.....some private clinics in adelaide i know will tell you from 16 weeks....

My SIL had a 4D scan for her 12wk & they told her the sex, Had her 18wk scan 4D too & they were correct. Definately a pink one.

Im thread Crashing here *sorry* :o We were told def a boy at 14 week scan, but at 20 weeks, surprise surprise Looks like a girl. - Id trust the 20 week scan more (more developed) but am still not so sure with us.. I reckon the earlier scans create a lot of doubt, specailly when the later ones say different. (hence our Sig!)

Ha ha we had the opposite - we were told DS was a girl at 14 weeks and by 20 weeks it was pretty clear he was a boy.
After that I wouldn't go out painting the nursery or anything based on what I was told before 18-20 weeks.

I had my scan at 12 weeks and said " Its a shame we can't find out the sex yet" and she said " Well actually, Im pretty certain its a BOY".....

I had my next scan at 19 weeks, and yep... Definately a little boy in there... So I think if they are really skilled, they can tell from as early as 12 weeks...

they can tell at the 12wk scan cause bubs is fully formed then  its just cause bubs is so tiny which makes it hard, if bubs is in a good position, quite often the sonographer is right,

but as we all know, even at the 20wk scan they can get it wrong

I heard through the grape vine that there is a blood test you can do as early as 6 weeks to find out the sex of bub.
