OK, so I am going to make some wipe solution for Oli's lovely bum, but want to check whether these ingredients might work...
I have some Jurlique products that are mostly full, so:
In a recipe that contains baby oil, do you think I could substitute for either Jurlique baby massage oil OR jurlique baby bath oil?
I just love the smell of these products but have to use special excema potions in the bath, and these are sitting there gathering dust. What do you all think? I will finish off my huggies wipes tonight so want to be ready to go tomorrow, and dont like using plain water on our cloth wipes!

What about just plain chamomile tea?
Its soothing, nourishing, works (and cleans) well, and smells pleasant.
I personally don't see any difference in using commercial baby wipes versus home-made (with chemical preparation) wipes...It amounts to the same thing.
TBH - I wouldn't be using jurlique products on my baby at all...

I already have them open at home, as I was given them. I have to go out to buy camomile tea- so I would rather make what I can with what I have...

I was given the Jurlique baby pack when my bub was born and they are the loveliest products. The bath oil and the massage oil are so, so soft and gentle. I think they would work really well, and a little goes a long way!

They smell beautiful dont they? Since Oli's excema has flared up I unfortunately only use boring bath and moisturiser products, and he scratches too much when he is undressed for me to give him baby massage:crying:...
that is why I am going to try to use it in the wipes solution. For a first try I have mixed some of the shampoo with water and a little olive oil. Smells nice! Next time I will try with oil in it instead...

Don't use anything oily in your wipes solution. If your wipes are getting washed with the nappies, your mcn may get a coating of the solution, which is difficult to wash off and makes mcn repel wee... not what you want...
Oh and make sure any water in the solution comes from the kettle- limits bacterial growth and that way after 2 days you don't have smelly wipes (if you are having them pre-dampened) or a solution that goes off quickly.

I found a few wipe solution recipes for you but most contain (if not all) an oily product. Being a small amount of oil I don't see it being a huge problem washing the wipes with the nappies but if you don't want to risk it then wash them separately.
Almond 'n' Chamomile
Steep the tea bags in the hot water then add the oil.
2 chamomile tea bags
2 teaspoons almond oil
2 cups hot water
Anti-Fungal
Omit vinegar if baby has a raw rash.
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 tablespoon calendula oil
A few drops lavender oil
A few drops tea tree oil
1/4 cup 100% aloe vera gel
1 cup water
Anti-Fungal Too
Similar to the other anti-fungal recipe, but less vinegar and water.
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 tablespoon calendula oil
A few drops lavender oil
A few drops tea tree oil
1/4 cup 100% aloe vera gel
1/2 cup water
Basic Wipe Solution
This basic recipe can be adapted by changing the type of soap or oil.
1/2 cup baby oil
1/2 cup baby wash
2 cups water
Castile Solution
Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap comes in several yummy scents!
1 tablespoon almond, apricot, or other oil
1 tablespoon Dr Bronner's Liquid Castile Soap
2 drops tea tree oil
1 drop lavender oil
1 cup water
Chamomile 'n' Honey
Brew the tea, add the honey, and drink any leftovers!
1 chamomile tea bag
1 teaspoon honey
1 cup boiling water
Easy Peasy
Just three simple ingredients...
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons baby wash
1 1/2 cups water
Eight is Great
Similar ingredients as other recipes, but in different amounts. 1/8 cup vegetable oil
1/8 cup baby wash
8 drops lavender oil
4 drops tea tree oil
2 cups water
Fruit 'n' Veggie
Dr Bronner's soaps can often be found in organic markets.
1 teaspoon fruit or vegetable-based oil (apricot, olive, grapeseed, etc)
1 tablespoon vegetable-based soap (like Dr. Bronner's liquid castile)
1 teaspoon 100% aloe vera gel
1 cup water
Just One
Just one "something" of each ingredient for this recipe.
1 chamomile tea bag
1 teaspoon oil
1 teaspoon baby bath or shampoo
1 drop lavendar oil
1 cup hot water
Lavender 'n' Tea Tree
Lavender and Tea Tree are popular EO choices for wipe solutions.
1/8 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon baby shampoo
4 drops tea tree oil
8 drops lavender oil
3 cups water
Lanolin & Glycerine
Lanolin and glycerine moisturize without oil.
1 tablespoon liquid glycerine
1/4 teaspoon liquid lanolin (100% pure)
1 tablespoon baby wash
1-3 drops EO
4 cups water
Lotion Potion
Baby lotion adds more softening power to this solution.
1 tablespoon baby oil
1 tablespoon baby soap
1 tablespoon baby lotion
1 cup water
Magic Baby
Baby Magic products are usually easy to find in local stores.
1/2 cup Baby Magic oil
1/2 cup Baby Magic wash
2 cups water
No Measuring
Don't measure for this one, just estimate amounts.
2 squirts baby oil
2 squirts baby wash
1 drop EO
1 cup water (about)
Olive 'n' Tea Tree
A great natural wipes solution.
1/4 cup olive oil (extra virgin not necessary)
1/8 cup gentle baby bath
A few drops tea tree oil
4 cups water
Shampoo Style
Baby shampoo works as well as baby wash.
1 tablespoon baby oil
2 teaspoons baby shampoo
2 1/2 cups water
Soapless
This recipe relies on the EO to cleanse, instead of using soap.
1-2 drops tea tree oil
1-2 drops lavender oil
1 cup water
Zany Apricot Solution
One of our favorites, the apricot oil smells heavenly!
1 tablespoon apricot oil
1 tablespoon unscented baby wash
3 cups water
Zany Lavender Solution
Our other favorite, the lavender is calming for us and our son.
1 tablespoon baby oil
1 tablespoon lavender scented baby wash
2-3 drops lavender oil
3 cups water

Good point about the oil, duh why didn't I think of that! Quite a few of the wipe recipes online have baby oil/essential oil in them so i didnt think twice about it. I did boil the kettle though so it is one step in the right direction...

Terry and flannellette flats are the traditional cloth nappy option so I guess that oily solutions have always been fine. It's just the synthetic fabrics such as fleece and suedecloth seem to get clogged up and repel so easily... I mean, a strip-wash is pretty easy to do to- but you only know that you have to do a strip-wash when you've had unexplained leaking and sooo much water gets used rinsing and rinsing...
I agree Lauren, a few drops of essential oil is not likely to do anything though. I just use water from the kettle to moisten and store wipes in a H tub because I can't be bothered mixing anything up

 Oh me too and D would be lucky to get warm wipes sometimes. It's a very rare occasion, when I can be bothered!

No warm wipes here either- I figure if he never experiences warm wipes, he wont know what he is missing... so cold ones it is! Doesnt seem to worry him though...
KarniF00l- thanks for those recipes- i have that website on my bookmarks and i made the shampoo one with only a tiny bit of oil added at the end cos I changed my mind.
I have it in a trigger spray and sprayed it directly onto his bum this morning (easier than spray wetting the wipe) and Oli thought it was hilarious!:D

Just found this old thread, instead of starting a new one. With the wipes solution, how long can you use it for? 2 days? And what is the best material to use for wipes? Would microfleece hold enough water to work? I don't want to use face washers as I want something that will be softer on the bot-bot!
TIA

If you want to use something a lot softer, than microfleece or polarfleece is the go. They grip more too.
What I do is put the solution into a spray bottle and spray the fleece as I need them. I always shake the spray bottle before using and change the solution every 2-3 days.
