What a week :(

A rotton bout of gastro for bub and now he does not want a bottle at all!

BEfore it he was happily scoffing 200ml 3 times a day. Now we have had total bottle refusal to the point that the minute he sees it - he cries and has a spak attack. ( this has been going on for 5 days now!)

Tried to put it in a cup - nope - gave hubby a turn - hope -----same affect....

what to do - he cannot have cows milk - have only literally just started having goats milk on his cereal and I dont want to keep feeding him kiddy jiuce etc

I am about to lose the plot..........

Oh Lucy, wish I has some good advice for you!

Have you considered the milk temperature? Maybe if he normally has it warm, you could try cold from the fridge or vice-versa? Might work as a novelty!

Hopefully someone else comes along with some better advice and he is feeling better soon! :)

Hey Lucy

You can water down juice, our doc recommended 1:3 apple juice to water for our babies when they are having trouble keeping fluid down. And I'm sure he'll get back onto the milk too. When DD1 would throw up her bottles (everytime she had a fever  ) we would re-introduce it as half strength formula and build it back up. she could keep it down if it was a bit weaker.

Hope this helps

hang in there lucyp... i know gastro is stressful.. esp when they wont take fluids..

i forget how old ur bubs is.. but if on solids try some juicy fruits such as watermelon etc...

hope everything goes back to normal quickly...

HI lucyp,
It is a very stressfull time and i feel for you ! my son had gastro bad when he was 5 months old unfortunatly it lasted 9 days. I had him up the hospital a couple of times because he flat out refused any liquid at all. They basically told me to keep an eye on him and to do half strength bottles. In the end we siringed the formula into his mouth. Hope this helps and it passes quickley

Basically thats what we've been doing - syringing it into his mouth - any liquid at all!! He is not the biggest of bubs - a whopping 8.5kg at 11 months old - so we do have to watch the weight loss side of things as well......

I could strangle the mother in our group that knowingly brought her child to our house and infected all 12 bubs, their mums, dads and anyone else they came into contact with - just so inconsiderate:mad:

There is one in every group! Anyways try not to worry to much my son lost a kilo but they bounce back so quick he put two back on in the following month.

My daughter also went off her bottles after a bout with gastro. But she was 20 months so I didn't mind so much!

So long as he is taking some sort of fluid you won't need to worry about dehydration. Water or diluted juice is fine. As is pedialite or the pedialite icy poles. We also had to resort to syringing pedialite into DD's mouth at the 40 hour mark cause she WAS dehydrated.

You could use formula or goats milk on his cereal and in any baking or cooking you do for him. Cheese, white sauces and rice puddings are good. For drinking you could try making up a fruit smoothie and just give it to him in a plastic cup, if he sees you making it and tastes the fruit first he might not reject it without a taste at least. I'm not sure if there are non-cows milk yogurts out there but that's the usual suggestion for getting calcium into bubs who simply won't drink milk. You could always invest in a yogurt machine and do it yourself, I've heard they're pretty good and a few mums on here have them.
