i was getting DD weighed and measured @ a Chemist with a ECHN and she said that since DD is teething I should be using a saline nasal spray everyday. To keep the eustachian tube clear and prevent ear infection and the like.
has anyone else heard of this and/or does this?

Hmmmmm. Havent' heard of this but we were going to to it for our DD as she is struggling with her top 2 teeth coming through and has had nasal problems for 2.5 weeks!
I haven't heard of this. wow

Is that because they produce more saliva or it's harder to swallow and backs up or something? Or does everything swell up?

Interesting.. Might try this a see if it helps DS sleep better...
Nope, sorry, never heard of anyone doing that.
My Dr always said that teething doesn't cause ear infections, fevers, etc anyway...so you might be trying to prevent something that isn't gonna happen anyway.
On the other hand...if bub is teething and has a stuffy nose then anything that makes bub more comfortable and happy can only be a good thing :)

Oh you soooo have to love them
I always find it amusing that teething doesnt cause problems yet so many of us mums talk about how bubs gets a fever or the runs or something like this when teething .... Must be all in our imagination heh
Im sooo going to ask my CHN on Tuesday when bubs goes !

I know what you mean allyoo...my old dr blamed teething for everything, even in a 1mth old bub, thats why I changed drs...but thats a whole other story.
I don't have any experience at all with bubs teething at the normal ages anyway...my DS didn't get his first tooth til he was 17mths old.
But I do sometimes wonder if the fevers, runny noses, etc are not actually from the teething itself, but more caused by bubs putting anything and everything they can get their hands on into their mouths? Stuff they wouldn't normally even get near their mouths without mummy stopping them?
Even tho DS wasn't teething, he had more colds, etc between about 7 and 10mths old anyway...he was also grabbing whatever he could find and putting it in his mouth
I just wish drs/chn's, etc would get their stories straight.

My bubs started teething the moment he was born LOL !
So yeah i knew when it was bad cause his temp would rise a little & he would get the runs wasnt from anything else thats for sure !
But yeah i had a doctor the other week even though really good in some ways kept saying with bubs being sick we still couldnt rule out teething which i knew was definately not the problem but anyways it was a virus in the end but as i then found out later that teething temps are no greater than 37.5 yet here was mine with a temp of 39.5 & he was saying we couldnt rule out teething pfft ! I will definately be sticking with my intuition next time heheh.
Yup, go with your intuition. Mummy always knows best :)
I also had a dr tell me that DS could just be teething when he had a fever of 41.5. I knew he had an ear infection coz his temp always shot up to 40+ when he got one. I walked out of seeing that dr and demanded to see another coz the first one told me his ears were fine and he was probly just teething, and the second dr said he had one slightly red ear and one very red ear  How the first dr missed that I don't know.
Thankfully he has outgrown the ear infections & really high temps now, but I hate to think what might have happened if I had believed what the first dr told me.
I stick to one Dr now, at least I know she'll check everything properly.

Yep for us it was the joys of moving to a new area & not knowing any good doctors or the likes !
Sounds like a 'good' sales pitch to me.
I'd just put breastmilk up the nose if I thought something like that would help, it is free, and packed with antibodies to boot.

hmmmm ApprenticeMomma I think you might have just hit the nail on the head there. I mean 'doh' I was in a chemist getting a 'free' weigh and measure.
bm certainly did wonders for her newborn sticky eye and I still have a far range with it... great call!!
